I see. Just like mine the truck was sitting around for about 2 years also. The previous owner put in a lower mileage 3vze that the recall was done. Found out that the engine had 70,xxx. Original miles. So I had to do was the fuel system and she was good to go.

mine had a studder till about 3500 rpm, I took all injectors out and bench tested them and they all opened and closed as they should, but with motor running I found a hole that at idel when pulling of plug wire it wouldent change the idel like the other 5 would, so I pulled that injector out and replaced it and now its running like a champ,
thats what i would do if i were you, start pulling wires with it run ning and make sure each wire when pulled changes your idel

took off my upper intake manifold and wellllll.........
my hardline at the back of the manifold that is bolted to the passenger side head (the one coming from the tank) has a dent in it, and i think it might be cracked..idk..haven't looked that far yet.
i noticed OIL on the lower intake manifold, on the driverside of it..right where my knock sensor wire goes under the manifold......wtf could this be? Valve Cover Gaskets????? that's the only thing i know of!
Keep in mind, there is some Coolant mixed in with it..it drained outta my upper intake manifold as i was taking it off..it's definitely oil though.
Here's a closer pic
in the first picture at the "Hole"/"notch" in the head bottom right hand corner of the pic, you can see more oil.......theres oil in another "hole"/"notch" on the passenger side as well. but this oil is not in all of these "holes". just a couple
i really hope it's my valve cover gaskets.........

okay SOOOO
turns out my Driver side Valve cover gasket is totally SCREWED....looks like it wasn't in the groove all the way??????? Screw up on my part
new Vavle cover gaskets, intake manifold gasket, new radiator cap, and some more coolant along with a repaired fuel line going in tonight/tomorrow.
my Missfire is coming from a fuel leak i believe....my main hardline right there by the passenger side fuel rail has a small dent in the side of it..and it leaks a little right there...gonna see if i can fix it, if not i'll rob one from a parts runner at a junkyard
i'm hoping that fuel leak will be the end of my "Misfire" issues

go ahead and grab a replacement, as well as some new pcv hose for the pass side, 1 dollar for some fresh stuff. while your there clean your injectors and buy some new orings for them i mean your right there go ahead and clean them and the rails and blow some air through that front portion of line from the filter to the rail. $5 for a fresh fuel system. get real crazy and spend $15 more replace the filter drop the tank and blow through that line from the front to the back. Go insane and buy a strainer for the fuel pump pull it and clean the whole thing for less than $50
Just make sure you put some grease on the orings before you put them back in the rails.

Hope u fix dat problem camo! Changing injectors on a 3vze is a bitch! I'm glad I did all six of them at one time. I lubed up my injectors with a little grease and went in fine. Put everything back together started it up and no leaks! Lmk how it goes bro!!!

well right now i'm waiting on a replacement fuel line..(apparently the ones from different year 4runners are different....) so everything is on hold..
got my Valve covers cleaned up, put on, and ready to go though!
this new Felpro Intake manifold gasket is THICK..my old one was like, just straight paper....this new one feels like an exhaust gasket (weight, thickness wise) and is super nice!

16. INSTALL INJECTORS AND DELIVERY PIPE
(a) Install a new grommet to the injector.
(b) Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O–ring, and install it to the injector.
(c) While turning the injector clockwise and counter–clockwise, push into[sic] the delivery pipe.(b) Apply a light coat of gasoline to a new O–ring, and install it to the injector.
Grease can harm certain types of rubber, particularly soft rubber like the injector o-rings. Not a smart move.

Damn your aggrivating, how can you quote the fsm on folks and yet put wine corks in your plenum, hack your egr out, and gut your cat. You find that in the fsm too.
