Okay so I would like to add a question here. I have an 84 4Rustbucket in my back yard with a solid front axle and manual locking hubs. I'm finding conflicting results and am hoping for a clear cut answer (if there ever is one...) will the hubs from a SFA fit into the IFS? Looking on various forums some posts say they're the same, others say they're different. Thanks!

I think I answered my question. WABFAB has two different hubs for SFA's and IFS. Dammit.

Okay so here is my next question. I have Automatic Locking Hubs (at least that's what the center piece on the wheel says). Say I'm in 4L and put my truck in reverse. How do I re-engage the 4WD? Do I have to put it into 2L, then back into 4WD? Or will it automatically re-engage itself just by driving forward?

There is a star shaped seal under the dial face, an o-ring on the dial, and a round seal under the whole manual hub deal.

It is a great idea to replace the seals when you do this job. Otherwise water and crud get in there, destroys your grease, and you need to do it all over again.

Seabee86, the auto hubs work in both forward and reverse; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. They lock when the cv drive axle turns a quarter turn in either direction, and stay locked until the WHEEL turns 1/4 turn in the opposite direction. So, if you back up in 4wd, the hub will unlock after the wheel turns ¼ turn, and then relock after the cv axle turns another ¼ turn in reverse.

So, as you alternate directions, the hubs alternately unlock and relock. That's a big reason why lots of people don't like them. That, and the extra complexity of the internal mechanism.

Round gasket = 43422-60010
Star gasket = 43531-60010
O-ring = 43532-60010

From toyotapartszone.com two of each will run you $11.40 + shipping.
