Hell its worth a shot at this point. Worst case just return it if problem persists. I've had a number of electrical components I've tested on vehicles that appeared fine with testing but pointed to that component and sometimes its just a fluke

My idea is the tps is thinking the blade is more closed than it is so its not wanting to for it fuel so it leans out and idles low. Have no idea why the safe nope engine lope. Ne'er heard of a tps doing that randomly. Maybe I'll break down and get a tps. Just hate throwing money at it since it tested out okay

Ah the horrible autocorrects of iPhones. Meant not wanting to flow fuel. And safe mode engine lope. And never. Not ne'er

Update. Been driving with the tps unplugged and connectors covered with waterproof tape. Been running amazing. Everything seems to be running better besides that I get a ping when at WOT cause its sucking all that air and doesn't know to dump extra fuel (lack of tps) so I figure that's the problem. Ordered a denso from toyota today. Will be here in the morning. Hope this works.

Will do, bud. If this is it, it's been the little problem I've been trying to track down since I got the truck back in febuary!

I know mine had started it since i rebuilt top end and have tried things here and there with no success. I adjusted my tps Monday and it actually doesn't seem right, so may be onto something with the tps

Unplug it and drive without for a few days. On differance is it won't go to Rich mode when you floor it and it won't go to lean mode when you let off and you're in gear (if you have manual trans)

My money would be on a bad TPS shorting the check connector is basically the same as unhooking the TPS. It cuts out anything on the E2 circuit TPS, coolant temp sensor, AFM. That way the ecu will not advance/retard timing from input of these sensors.

By work you mean they meet factory specs, or the truck runs with them unhooked? The ecu will switch to an open loop mode running on factory determined specs if the input from the sensors is out of spec. I had a 93 that had an open in the e2 circuit that caused havoc. After rewiring the e2 ground it fixed it.

Well afm is in spec and no cel for that, and coolant temp appears fine cause its the same warm up cycle as its ever been. How would I know if that was my problem? Where's the ground for it?

These sensors do not utilize a chassis ground like most, they are grounded through the ecu. This way they can be cut out by the ecu for timing purposes. Here's a pin guide for the ecu it's from a 93 fsm I think yours will be the same. If you don't have continuity between e2 and a chassis ground with the ignition on you may have an open circuit. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...ne/44engin.pdf

Apparently after 91 these sensors changed? Would this make a difference?

So got a new sensor, toyota gave me the wrong one. For an 85 they said? New ones here Tuesday. Since I had the tb off, I ohm'd it out again. All test bast besides the ones with the E2-IDL pins. Nothing at all off the IDL pin. So maybe that's my problem? That mean the tps IS bad?

I'm not super handy with an ohm-meter, but it reads 1x.xxx on the IDL pin in any position. Should read 0.0000 if its supposed to be infinite, right? Tests say it should be less than 2.3k in one test. Meter reads 1x.xxx. (X=blank spaces on meter screen. And test says infinite/open. Meter reads 1x.xxx. So whatever inside the tps for the IDL pin is bad, correct? Sorry if I'm hard to understand, never done anything like this ever before.

Now when I short the connector to check timing, idle doesn't drop.

Ok well for anyone who was wondering, I replaced my tps with the revised one, I have a 1990, part number wasn't comparable with y truck, I actually had a tps from an 88-89, after all that, truck runs amazing. Never been so fast. Still has a random low idle, nothing like before. I think it may still just need some fine tuning. Thanks for all the help guys.
