Loud knocking at start up, goes away and starts again at higher rpm

My truck is knocking very badly at start up. After I give it a couple revs it’s mostly goes away, but returns at astound 2400 rpm. I played with the distributed and a timing light and it’s gets close to 5 btdc but with the distributer all the way retarded. Is the engine not timed correctly?

Have you checked if revs/timing adjusts when setting the debug/timing jumper wire? If there is no change, I would see if TPS is properly adjusted.

When I jump the wire I don’t get a drop in revs, but, I do get a check engine light. I will move on to the tps. Would the tps cause the knocking or just the timing issue?
