Yeah the guy said that the bed has rust on both sides in the back at the bottom. And you can see a little on the front fenders. But I can get new fenders and fix the rust on the bed. But as long as the frame is in good shape I think that it looks pretty good. What do you think.

Not sure what to do now
I talked to both these guys today and they are now the same price. 2800 for either one. Im not sure what to do. The gy with the 94 says that it has been rebuilt and has new tires on it. Says the only thing that it needs is an emergency brake cable. it has 199,000 miles on it with some rust. tailgate is rusted out and he said there are a fer holes in the fenders and the top of the bed is rusted. Said hes getting rid of it because he does not need it anymore. Heres the link.

Now the 92 ex-cab has 107,000 miles and some rust. It looks like there is rust around the front fenders and the lower part of the bed on both sides. t also has new tires on it just like the 94 reg-cab. And he also said ht would take 2800. Im not sure what to do. Heres the link again for the 92

Now There are a few things that im not sure about. How reliable are the 6cyl. Should I worry that the 94 has 199, 000 miles on the bottom end. Is there anything I should know about the ex-cabs since I have only ever owned reg cab yotas. Do I really need an Ex-cab, Ther room would be nice considering that im 6'4". Please Please help me. Im not sure what to do.

At 6'4" you will like the room of the extra cab. At 107,000 miles the truck is probably due for a timing belt. On the 94 what is he calling a rebuilt top end? My guess is that it had a set of head gasket's put on. Either case it's a tough call. I personally don't like standard cabs because of the lack of room.

Probably not. The only offroad that it might see would be to get to a good hunting or fishing spot or maybe the occasional camping with the wife. Plus Im going to drive it everyday back and forth to work. The room is not really an issue. I mean I have had reg cab yotas but the ex-cab would be nice though.

I would choose the one with the less rust. Try to save as much of the metal as possible. Other than the head gasket issue the 3vz is very reliable. 107k is pretty low. Even though the 199k has had the head gasket done it could need a timing belt and water pump as well. IMHO I would would be worth the extra money to find a 96 or newer taco. It seems like you have serious doubts and are concerned with reliablity. The money you could be putting into and risking with the older trucks for a DD you could invest into a new taco with alot less concern. And the 3.4 is so much easier to work on. Might even be easier than the 22. In that case you could look for one with the 3rz.

Well the thing is right now that Im limited to what I can spend. I really can't spend more than 3000 right now because I just lost my job and had to sell my other truck to get something less expensive. Im not worried about the mechanical end of it. I was an automotive instructor up until two weeks ago when my job got tossed because of "Budget Cuts". So I can handle doing the work. I guess im just concerned because I have never dealt with the 3vze. I am just more familiar with the 22re. But With that said, I think that im going to do what you said and look for the least amount of rust and frame rot. MAn after last night I really hope that this frame is not trashed and rigged. I wish I could afford a 96 or newer taco but I dont have that kind of money right now. Thanks for the advice.

Since you can handle it get the 3vz and you can price the 3.4 for the swap. like I said, its practically a bolt in upgrade with some wiring to figure out. Do a 3.4 swap and if you 3vz still runs you could sell it the 3vz to recoup for the cost of the 3.4. Then you some what have a taco for possibly a cheaper price. Go with the one with less body work. Good luck
