Locking Hub Issue

Locking Hub Issue
Hello I have a 94 IFS with Aisin locking hubs.
After my last wheeling trip, I unlocked the hubs and got back on pavement. I heard a hum only around 40mph, and the sound continued even in neutral. After some looking, I realized that even though the passenger side locking hub was set to free, the CV axle was still locked. So I'm about to take it apart and see what I find. Just wanted to ask around first to see if there's anything I should look out for. Also, since the hub is still locked when set to free, after I disassemble it, should I re-assemble it with the hub set on locked?
Thanks for the help everyone.

whether the hub is locked or unlocked plays no role in reinstalling it after servicing. it isn’t magic, it’s only a mechanical connection. the only moving parts are in the hub, not on the cv stub.
it’s possible a spring inside the hub is broken, causing it to fail to freewheel.

Got it apart, cleaned and greased everything and now it's all gravy again.
It looks like the previous owner didn't have a gasket so used some rtv sealant that got in and gunked up the spring a bit.

I'll use RTV on a gasket but not by itself, never seems to last long.
I had a helluva time tracking down leaks into locking hubs. went through several wheelbearings. Finally found problem someone smacked locking hub with a BFH and deformed metal on mating surface. filed it down and no more issues.
