Knocking?
I just bought a 1989 Toyota 4runner with 230,000 miles on it. I drove it about 150 miles home today and it ran great, idle is steady and everything. When I got it here however, I cranked it up and noticed a "slight" knocking; sounded like valves, but when the engine idles back down after a few seconds it stops. Its in dire need of an oil change and some Lucas...any ideas?

Make sure the spark plugs are thread in all the way I had a similar problem on my 97 4Runner. The previous owner didn't tighten one of the plugs and compression was getting past the hole. Luckily I caught it quick enough and the threads were still good. If it is an actual engine knock then it is too late for lucas, but it wouldn't hurt. Toyotas run forever with rod knocks. No check engine light? I would think that the knock sensor would pick up the knock if it was legit.
