key ignition problem?....
Ok. So just the other day my step dad went to move my 4runner and couldnt. He said that he couldnt get the key in, so i went out to try and see what was wrong. (thinking it was just steering wheel locked up and just needed wiggled a little bit) But when i went to put the key in, i couldnt get it in. I ended up giving a little bit of a push before i got it in. After that it started up just fine.
It still has a little bit of that problem, but not as bad. It only started a few days ago. I dont know if its because of it getting cold or??
Only keys i have are copies of the original key and have worked fine. Dont ask what happened to original.......
Any ideas though?
My best thought is to use some kind of lubricant or something....

go to home depot or anywhere they make keys...they will have a tube of graphite lube you can buy..it goes in dry and resists freezing..it costs like abuck or two and really smooths out locks very nicely..

your key code should be on the passenger lock ass'y, youll have to r&r the interior door panel to get at it. take that code to any dealer and have proper keys made.
more than likely, the copies have worn to the point of causing your grief now.

Ive had that graphite lube stuff before. Someone had me try it on a WAY different problem on an old vehicle i had. Didnt work and wasnt sure if the stuff was that good.
And was planning on getting an original made when i went in for the recall on the steering rod. Figured it should help and is best to have originals
Thanks.
