sorry to ask so many questions. I wont be able to pull enough slack out of the AFM harness. It looks like 7 or 8 pins. is that how many wires? And would I be fine just cutting and soldering each individual wire back together with extensions? I was thinking of rewiring the AFM and the battery cables along the firewall.

I actually couldn't tell in all your pics if you were able to get enough of the stock harnes out to extend it, or if you did your option 1

1982 celica supra afm, ending in -43110. it should come with a 3" opening and outlet. if not, there are adapters at advance auto or autozone. it shoul run you about $70 or less. it plugs right in.

Any supra AFM will work only the 82 is a direct plug in. I just did mine with a Supra AFM that I got it for 5 bones from my bro-in-law. not sure what year it was off of but i just swapped out the internals(really easy) and it works great.

yeah, you can do that too. a bit more in-depth, but it works well. if i had known that earlier, i would have done the same thing. however, some states don't like seeing an afm tampered with. and for a first-time mod, just using an '82 supra is a good plug-and-play mod

"some stated dont like seeing......... NOT A PROBLEM IN MS!!!!!

Has anybody done this AND figured out how to feed it cooler air outside the engine bay? I hear the thoughts that getting the feed tube away from the radiator/engine helps but isnt it still sucking HOT under hood air? Even the factory system has a fredh air feed through the core support.

it's less of a "cold air intake" and more of a "more air intake"

you could run a snorkel. i've wanted to do something like that for a while

no desire for a snorkel, i dont swim much and neither does my yota. I WOULD however like to have a fresh air intake. I've seen some of them with a cowl feed that comes around the passenger side fender.
Have to agree with ya: MORE air is the object here!

I've seen some ricers drill a large hole through (70mm) where the battery used to be and run a flexible duct from from there to the bumper. Forcing air in as the car moves. Works really well.

that's something i actually drew plans for. delivery trucks have a narrow flap that opens into the air stream for cab ventilation. it would be neat to be able to pull a lever and have the door open.

Many people here have done the battery/intake swap, as well as upgrade to a larger AFM.
got it?

Also the run from inlet to t/b is much shorter... which will create better throttle response. Along with it being on the "cold" side of the motor.

this thing?

yeah, it's the "silencer" for it. the noise without it really annoying. you don't need it, but you do need to keep a filtered air opening on the line (before or after the "silencer"). it's technical name is "resonater", but that's the exact opposite of what it does.

though, if it's a non-smog vehicle, ie a trail only rig, there are kits to remove all that stuff anyway.

got 23 the other night, but all my mileage went back up after the timing chain guide replacement.

in other words, the drop in fuel economy and the b/i swap were completely unrelated.

so yeah, my mileage is great
