Installing Old Man Emu rear springs!!

IMHO adding washers is just a shoddy way of fixing it. No offense. It might seem like a good, cheap idea but it just looks bad. I do like b4wheelers idea of removing the pin and just making it shorter. If there isn't enough thread on it, like you think, just use a die and make more threads. If you don't have a tap and die set, borrow one from a friend, co-worker, whatever. If none of this is applicable, I'd say return the shackles all together and get the correct set. If you can't return them maybe because you exceeded the return period, then you could sell them to a friend or something. I would use washers or shims as a last resort.
For future reference, 4Crawler has an amazing website with a plethora of information on just about anything, including shackles. He even sells custom made ones. His shackle page: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/Shackles.shtml

None taken, haha. I've been to 4Crawler a bunch lately though. That's where I got the front bolts, the sleeves and I just ordered ball joints spacers and a LSPV bracket.
I would say returning the shackles is out because I ordered them a few months ago from SierraExpeditions when I was collecting all the parts.
Just to clarify, are you saying that the washers will affect longevity or looks? Or both, because it's essentially jury rigging it?

EDIT: You did yourself a favor going to a reputable vendor.

I wouldn't necessarily say that SierraExpeditions helped me pick out the parts, but after looking around I decided to order all my OME stuff from them. I already shot an email to ARB, so I'll call SierraExpeditions tomorrow.
Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't be opposed to throwing washers in there myself. I can't see it hurting anything and it would be a lot easier than tearing it down and shipping them back while having more down time on the truck. I wouldn't drive it much the way it is now though, it would probably tear those bushings up pretty fast.

Either that, or don't drive it at all. As it sits now, there is 18mm of play in both mounting point of both shackles. I don't know how long the bushings are, but there could be a possibility of one slipping out. Also, there would be a lot of movement while driving down the road.

Well here's the temporary fix. It should work until I get new shackles and I must say I've had quite the revelation today.
I'm not entirely sure as to why I didn't catch this earlier, but the shackle I have right now is the OMEGS1 NOT the OMEGS3. I talked to ARB and it turns out that the GS3 is actually the correct shackle.
I could have sworn I purchased the GS3, but my invoice from SierraExpeditions says otherwise.
Man I feel dumb haha.

looks good!
you should technically be ok running the shackles this way. what length of shackle are those anyways? shackle length will have a lot to do with how tall it's sitting, and you may find need to swap them later once the leafs have finally settled.
when I did my truck, I got the same surprising 4-5" lift just like you did, with stock shackle - it was definitely raked. took about a year to finally settle all the way - i also "helped" it settle faster with several loads of compost and rocks for my garden. currently, the back of my truck is right around 22.5" from the center of the axle to the bottom lip of the fender. not sure how that compares to a 2nd gen since mine's a 3rd gen.
btw, ubolt flip kit or just triangulated shock mounts will give you back your rear downtravel. i got around 4-6" more travel just by doing this over the stock setup.

I tend to agree that you should be fine running this way. You can barely even tell that there are washers in place. My main concern was the bushing getting shredded and your fix looks like it'll do the trick to keep them in place. Personally, I wouldn't worry about getting the "right" ones. Especially for the price.

The shackles are essentially the same length as stock. Maybe an 1/8" longer. I think I'm going to keep everything shock mount related the same for a while.
Thanks Bigdady!
I emailed SierraExpeditions and they said they can swap me out if I call, which would be really cool of them.
I also got my ball joints spacers the other day. They'll go on once I get the ball joints.

^I believe the 79-88 shackles are narrower than the 89-95 rigs. if going with OME i think you need the OMEGS1 version. you don't technically have to get OME shackles, any manufacturer will work especially if you can find them cheaper...like Trail Gear, Marlin Crawler, Ruff Stuff, etc - they are all the same as long as they're for Toyota as we use metric size holes in the bushings.
the only reason the OP had issues with his shackles is due to the center spacing pin, which sets the width. most shackles don't have this inclusion.

My OME 87 4Runner leafs had to flip the forward strap bolt 180..... It was going to contact the fuel tank pinch flange....... Even with the bolt to the strap flipped it was still going to make some contact with the fuel tank... so if I hadn't of went forward with my SAS I would have likely have moved the tank over around a half an inch.

My Bad
Thanks, Gents:
My bad; I missed that it was an '86, so wrong generation . I called ARB and was told that they don't make a greaseable shackle for the '93. I was hoping to use all OME parts.

I found a manual that lists the GS7 shackle for the 93 Hilux. Other than the shackle set, the ARB parts for the Hilux and Pickup are identical. Aren't those trucks one-in-the-same?
