IFS suspension questions
#21
I added BJ spacers, then loosened the T-bars back down so that the ride is stock height. Flexes well for IFS, no steering issues, and no CV problems. I'd tub put the fenders to fit tires as opposed to lifting.

Thanks for the replies, lots of usefull information on here. I think im going to stick to my orginal plan of the BJ spacers + OME torsion bars. Im not only adding a winch/bumper combo but an on-board welder, on board air, dual batteries, and hopefully dual alternators if I can figure out a way to do it. So there will be a decent amount of weight added to the front of my rig. I decided to go with the downey springs in the rear, because again there will be lots of weight added there too (Canvas shell, swing out tirecarrier, 20gallon water tank, 10 gallon fuel tank, hi lift jack, shovels, axe, tools, recovery equipment, roof rack, and roof top tent). I think I may go with a SAS in a few years depending on how the IFS holds up, however I dont want to exceed 2.5-3" of suspension lift even with the SFA. I personaly dont care much for body lifts as all they do is help clear bigger tires, I need more function than form.
Next question, what are some good on-line sources that I can buy the BJ spacers and OME stuff from? Any Toyota specific people out there other than All Pro, or Marlin? (I know there is Slee Offroad but they are mainly into crusiers)
As for my pictures above, the Green JK is on Gold Mountian in Big Bear Ca, and the picture of my Red YJ was taken on Holcom Creek in Big Bear Ca. The fenders on the YJ were 1st gen pre-production REV-1 tube fenders, unfortuently REV-1 is now out of business.

Marlin and All Pro are good sources for more solid axle type stuff. You can also look at Sky Manufacturing. But for your own safety stay away from Trail Gear. Chinese made parts and otherwise low quality...theres a reason it costs that much less....

So you must be somewhat local eh..?
Anyway, Back on topic, You say your going to have a bunch of weight yada, I've seen that the downey springs dont really hold up to alot of weight wear and tear past a year.
Look into deaver or Alcan, Deaver is actually in northern LA and can make you a good spring pack for the weight you say your going to have..
Anyway, When that truck of yours is trail ready lets wheel !!

Flex is over rated.
Truck had no problems crawling through this with boatloads of gearing and 2 lockers.
FWIW, I'm running the OME torsions with BJ spacers. I relaxed my torsion bars so I'm sitting at stock height, and it rides pretty well. I destroyed too many steering components with the tbars cranked.

Oh don't forget the parts for dropping the diff. Again someone on ebay is selling them for $10. If your front end binds you will have more problems than you bargained for. Also if you do a diff drop you will have to drop your swaybar as well as the driveshaft will hit the swaybar.

I'm looking at getting some spacers and 2 or 3 inch alcan leaves in the rear. I don't have any extra weight up front yet so I may hold off on the OME t-bars. I would like to run bilsteins, what size would fit the front with like 2 inches of lift?

I just did something very similar to my '89 1st gen Runner.
BJ spacers up front
2" OME leaf springs in back
OME shocks front/rear
OME steering stabilizer.
5.29 gears with Lockrights front/rear
33x10.5x15 BFG AT's on 15x8 Rockcrawlers with 4.5" of backspacing.
I left the stock T-bars in for now, but have a pair of OME bars in the garage. I plan on putting a bull bar on with an M8000, I will put the OME bars in at that time.
I have a thread for the build on here, you can get some info from there.

I hope I don't get too much flack for bumping an older thread. I don't really care though cause I think there's some pretty good info in here.
I am thinking of doing BJ spacers, 31's,32's or maybe 33/10.50's, not really sure which size. I plan on maybe putting on fiberglass fenders though instead of body lifting. Still undecided on the rear, maybe OME Dakar leaf pack. Superbleeder I am interested in how your truck rides? Do you know how much travel you have with the BJ spacer and Rancho UCA's?
