IFS lift now or save and do SAS?
so ive been debating on lifts and suck and have been reading up seeing people do their own and right now im pretty certain on doing a SAS on my truck and getting it lifted that way, and currently im searching for rear leaves so i can finally get rid of my butt sag. but the only things im debating on is if i should spend a little money and get a small lift now and do the SAS later or if i should just wait it out till i can do the SAS. seems like most people do their lifts in progression but why not just do it all at once? any recommendations? what would/have you done to your truck in regards to lifts and any regrets? thanks

Look at the type of wheelin that you are going to be doing. If you are going for looks (mall crawler) then go with the IFS lift.
I started with the IFS lift and was a waste of about 800. I grew out of it in about one year. The SAS is a big project, but it is very well worth it. I have zero regrets with my SAS. Good luck with your decision.

Funny how right when I read "mall crawler" I see a blond in the parking lot struggle to climb in her dodge ram Big Horn. Lol.
Anyways yes I was thinking a sas would be a better option. One small question, would it be a waste getting my truck sas'd but not getting it lifted at the same time?

IMO, a bracket IFS lift is not a waste of money, and does not make your truck a "Mall Crawler." I've wheeled my truck hard on my IFS Lift. SAS can be more "extreme" but it also costs a lot more. I've wheeled with locked rigs and been able to keep up (or go further) so far.
Now if you're ultimate plan is SAS, then I agree not to lift the IFS. BUT, many people do it that way and then sell the IFS lift stuff and make some back. It just depends on the way YOU want to do it.
I don't regret my bracket lift. Sometimes I wish I would have done a SAS, but then I look and the cost comparison and the fact that this is a DD and weekend wheeler and I'm happy with the current lift. (and now I have the '87 to play with, when I get it finished...)

hmmm so plane so far: replace rear leaves to get rid of that sag. then just wait it out till i can do the sas with lift and such. in the meantime work on drive train/motor and tires....

Not to offend anyone... but I don't know why you would buy an IFS truck in the first place is you wanted a SFA... I know I will offend a few that say "do it right and do it once"... take your own advise... you should have bought a SFA truck !?!
Having now offending everyone... I do think an IFS lift is a waste of money You can put skinny 33's on that thing stock and run pretty near anywhere.

haha jk. the truck does do pretty well as is stock, and thinking how i only got it for 4500 with few problems, it was worth the buy

My recommendation is armor, gears/lockers, THEN lift/SAS. Tires when the ones you got are worn out. You may decide that you don't need a SFA for the kind of wheeling you like.

If you know you need to sas i would save up and do that.
If you think you will just be doing light wheeling i'd start with an ifs lift and see where that takes you

I did the 4" Pro Comp Stage II kit and it cost $900 on sale and it has done fine so far but now in hin site I would have saved the cash because for $700 more I could have got the full front and rear sas kit which gives lots of lift and then a another $200-$300 the front axle and you could get a couple friends and some beer pizza and a weekend you could get it done and have a nice set up some thing like this

both of them have there place and both have 5.29's and 35 x 12.5's and they go where ever I want them to but the SAS just get's me a little farther and will do a few more harder trails
but it really all comes down to what you want to do and where you want to go.
Don't get me wrong I love both my trucks but I feel alot more like going places with the SAS then I do the I.F.S.

Oh yea tc I'm going 33's. And as far as IFS it seems everyone I talk to ends up doing it then regretting the money they spent after. I should be fine with lockers, t-case, 33's and small other mods. And yea the SAS will be nice to wheel with and would be a fun challenge.
