dam I wish I would have put the 261 in mine now, I guess I could $200 or so later to do the head gasket and change out the came, seems kinda dumb on a motor with only a little over a thousand miles on it, but I thought my 268 was going to have more low end, should have got the 261! Can the intake manifold be left on the head and just take out the head bolts lift up the head, undo the exhaust manifold of course, clean the gasket off, new one on and new cam and put it back together or does the intake manifold have to come off the head? I was lucky to do all my work while I had the motor out I guess, if its too much of a pain I would just forget it, but the low end would be nice!

261* is the crawler cam, so that means low end. 268* means the valves are open longer which is good at high rpm.
How have your guys fuel economy changed since you got cams? Is there much gain without porting the head, O/S valves or exhaust?

My truck has pretty much always gotten about 20 mpg through it's life and I've had it since 1989 and it's always had 31's on 4.10 gearing. The last year or so before the rebuild I was only getting 17-18. Immediately after the rebuild (with the new cam) I still only got about 18. I also didn't notice much seat of the pants difference in performance, but I did notice on a hwy trip that I was able to make 70 mph which had been pretty much impossible before the rebuild. After I added a full LCE exhaust I really noticed a bump in throttle response. It just feels much more peppy. It has also slowly come around to giving me near 20 mpg again. (19.8-20.4)

So if you were gonna dd and weekend wheel on some hilly streets the 261 c is what to go after then?
First 22 it is in a 93 4runner 5 speed sas with 5.29 and 35's so need as much info as possible before I replace the cam , bearings and head gasket also thinking about o/s valves are they worth it and do they make that much of a differance to justify the extra work on the head?

I got the pro/street performer cam from LCE along with the stroker crank and headers, I'd say its all crap the PO did all the replacements and I think it feels pretty much the same as every other 22re with 31s I've ever driven. Plus I feel like the motor wont pull till like 2200. He almost could have done a 3rz swap for what he spent on all that crap.

I've run both the EB 261 and the Delta 260, really can't say if one is better than other becuase of other upgrades that went along. But if you want low end and a DD why not the 261/260 cams? from idle to 36,000/38,000 where else do you need it at. As for OS valves I got 1mm over with a mild port and polish. I love it the low end capibilities it just grunts on through, really nice when your don't want to stop and drop it into a lower gear. Make no mistake it's still a 4cyl and won't ever keep you from reaching out to touch the dash when floor it. So is any performance mod ever worth it?? Hell you can always drive a stocker

I run the stock cam, and bounce it off the rev limiter all day long.
I bought the truck with a supra engine swap done, it was alittle rough
at first but got the bugs worked out after a few weeks of driving.
If you want a bit of extra power, consider the following: remove your clutch fan and go electric. Its the single, most cost eficient upgrade you can do for your truck. It will also let it reach operating temperature faster.
Just remember to run the fan on a relay and to have a master switch to turn on and shut off should the system decide to fail or to go through a water crossing.
I am currently using a single fan from a jeep cherokee to push the air through my rad, as there is only about a 1/4 in of room between mt rad and harmonic balancer.
If still deciding to install a different cam, go for a crane cam, complete with new valve springs and seals. The springs that come with the cam are matched to it, and the seals should be done to reduce burning oil through the guides, as well if youre in there doing the springs, the seals are right there.

I'm looking back trying to figure out which is better for my style of driving, thinking that the 261 might be a good choice but I was worried about the top end. Well, suffice it to say that if it will work up to 43 000 rpm, that is plenty for me!
