I'd like to know what cam you got....
Im really interested in getting an aftermarket cam for my 93 22re. Been looking at many, but would like to hear from you guys. What one did you get? like it? how much of a difference did you notice? and how much if you dont mind.
Thanks!

I got this one with my replacement engine.

It seems to work well, though I've only got about 4-5k on it so far. I really couldn't say if I noticed much difference when I first got it as the whole engine was freshened up. What I did notice was a real seat of the pants improvement when I put on the LCE header and exhaust. Wether it was the exhaust alone or a combo of the exhaust and cam, I can't really say. I just know that it runs much stronger now. Also I did not have any special valve work done. The head is stock other than the cam.
Also some specs from Rogers site.

And I'm sure plenty of folks here are running Engnbldr heads both 268 and 261. Hopefully they will chime in. For some reason I couldn't find the specs on his products.

I used the Engine Builder 261 Crawler cam. It was a big difference, but I also have a rebuilt shortblock and his performance head.

I have a 260 cam from http://deltacam.com/ They're about 25 minutes north of where I live, cost me like $45 since I gave them my stock cam.
I've noticed an improvement, but nothing AMAZING but for $45 couldnt go wrong when I was putting a new head on my motor.
I'm rebuilding a 22R right now and I'm gonna get the same cam for it.

Do you really frequently take your 22RE higher than 4500?
I thought that was low until I bought an aftermarket tach. I rarely EVER took her higher than that before. Especially not now.

Not to healthy to take it above 4k IMO. These motors tend to drop off after 4K and stop making power. Besides, damn things sound like thier gonna fling apart hehe

what is your intended use? street, offroad? a lot depends on use.
i like the 268, but in all honesty if i were to do it again, i may go to the 261. lopey, but drops the torque curve down even further and i was looking to pull the hills out here easier.
that said, my gas mileage didn't take a huge hit with the 268 and it helped a great deal.
i personally wouldn't rev this motor high, at least not consistently, but there are a lot of people here that do. a lot of the time. it is designed to run up there, check your hp and torque specs as to where in the stock rpm band max is generated. 4600 is max hp for me, which means it's fine to run at that speed. again, not that i'd do it, i'd prefer max life.
oh, and all that have dealt with him think ted is one of the best.

javadoody, I'm with you on that! I just rebuilt my motor and I have the 268 and I love it, but if I could do it again I would get the 261 to move the tourque down a little, would help with some hills around here!

I'm looking for a cam, and I'd like a really lopey rough idling one, mostly for the sound, but I'd also like its power range to be in between off idle and 5500 RPM... Anyone got a reccomendation?

Granted, in stock form that engine did not have much of anything above 4000 RPM.

WOW thanks guys! I'm debating between the 261 and 268. I spend alot of time on the highway but am building it for more off road fun, but still a daily driver. I would like more low end torque, and really never plan on going past 4500 rpm. maybe only in the mud now and then.
I'd like to see a gain from idle to 4-4.5k not some that i seen where it 2500 and up. i want it low.
so 261 or 268??????
Thanks again!
