I need to know if I messed up on timing removal.
After taking out my distributor. I went to take off my top camshaft bolt off and didn't know I had to wedge so it wouldn't turn.
When I turned it my crankshaft pulley moved counterclockwise about a 1/4 turn. I moved everything back but didn't know if I'm screwed.

When you moved the camshaft bolt you also turned the cam and crank gear together so as long as the chain didn't skip teeth on the gear you are fine even if it did its not that hard to line up. What are you doing? Head gasket? Timing cover?

Thanks for the reply.
Timing chain replacement. My guides are broke. I scooped them out of the oil pan today.
I had my camshaft zip tied when I I turned it so everything didn't move in sequence.
I then stabbed my distributor back in and turned my crank over some revolutions to see what it looked like. Seems close but idk. I guess I'm gonna find some kind of tool too remove it.

If your pulling the cover then don't worry about being in time right now just get it close and triple check everything when you put it back together. As far as breaking the cam bolt loose I've always used an impact gun but if that's not an option there's a hole in the cam right behind the gear that you put a punch in and hold it while you put a breaker bar on the bolt.

After putting new gears and chain on and making sure they are lined up at TDC. When you go to stab the distributor I usually put the hold down bolt dead center and line the rotor up so that when the distributor is fully seated its pointed at number one cylinder on the cap. This usually gets your ignition timing close. Look for the FSM on this forum and it will tell you what clock to put it at. As long as you don't turn the crank or cam one full revolution while you have the chain off you will be fine. Marking the distributor is not really needed if you follow the FSM. The worst that can happen with the distributor is it will be 180 degrees out. I don't think I've ever marked a distributor on these engines but then again I'm usually pulling the head.
