lol thats what I did this time 4wheeled the rest of the day with it broken. The first time I broke it it was stock 31 inch tires. So how do you explain all the people that hammer on their trucks 4wheeling and don't have drivetrain issues. I know there's alot of people on here that put their trucks through alot more than what I do with mine. Out of all the people I 4wheel with i'm the only one that has that actuator on the front diff and I'm the only one with this problem

can't speak for the add front diff w/manual hubs (that's what your is right?) I have 4:10 factory with 31's and not the 4:56's. Maybe it's the 4:56's????
I doubt the actuator is the problem though since yur braking gears and not axle shafts.
Or maybe your a little hard on the skinny pedal? When yur on the gas too much and your tires finally grab traction that's when bad things tend to happen.

i think its time for a SOLID AXLE SWAP!!!!! if you start running anything past 33s you will start breaking stuff....needless to say i went through 2 front diffs untill i finally woke up and realized that sas is the only way to go. Its a pretty easy swap IMO

yeah 4.56's with manual hubs. All stock drivetrain I have nothing after market on it. 3 inch body lift. I don't hold the gas to the floor while I go through things unlike the people I go with. One time my front diff broke going up a small sand hill. To say more 2wd cars go up this spot. No reason why it should have broke there. I really think its in the ADD or the 4.56's. one guy I go with runs boggers on an all stock drivetrain as well and he'll be spinning on a rock and it just grabs like you said and he's never broken anything either and he does this every time we go out. I did some research and supposedly can take the ADD front shaft out (where the axle bolts up to) and put a non ADD one in it. Anyone know if this is true??

I've been thinking about that to but I've heard of things breaking on solid axles to if you 4wheel them to rough. But do like how they perform overall and they make a truck look good. Right now its not in my budget either and for the type of 4wheeling I do I think it would be pointless to do a SAS. I know 2 people who have always owned toyota's and they always run 34's and 35's on a stock drivetrain NEVER broke anything

My truck rides fine on the street I have no sway bars either My torsion bars aren't cranked at all. Around here I know a junkyard the guy gives them to me for $100 if i pull it $150 he pulls it out . I've wanted to convert mine to a 4cyl anyway I might do it this time and put an all 4cyl drivetrain in it. Never seen anyone with a 4cyl with any problems

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you probably need to change your driving style. If your wheeling with similiar trucks in similiar terrain and your consistently breaking stuff and they aren't well....... If it was one diff maybe but three speaks volumes. Get some real 4.88's from Yukon or something similiar and pay to have them set up properly and it'll likely eliminate your problem. Having stock gears with big tires put's a ton of strain on your entire drivetrain. It's like trying to pedal a bicycle up a steep hill in a high gear. It takes a lot more force to get stuff to turn.
I guess you like changing your diff every other weekend then your fine..I'd either quit wheeling or spend some money to upgrade. Pulling that front third out sucks.

So of the people that have responded that all say I beat on my truck. If you do any 4wheeling at all what do you consider beating on your truck? I see many toyota's these guys will up sand hills taching almost 7K RPM only things i go through are mud and water nothing as extreme as the people I go with. I never go past 4.5K RPM on mine in 2nd gear in mine

Did you extend the diff breathers on your diffs before you went through the mud and water? if not that in it self is a major problem. Do the other guys have diff breathers or changing out their fluid every time they get crap in their diffs? Kind of a key point in taking care if the gears in your yota is making sure they don't have water and dirt in the actual diffs themselves.

whenever i have seen a diff break its because someone was hoping the front end causing it to bounce trying get over/up something. As they slow, or get stuck/stopped, they increase throttle cause even more hoping of the front.
With the wheels spinning and catching the ground, then up spinning and then catching the ground again, this is recipe for grenaded diff.
Slow and easy is usually best. Thats why people have crazy crawl ratios......to go slow.

I agree beating on the truck is not the answer to his problems. I beat the heck outta mine. don't believe me see my sig.
mightymouse brings up a good point about making sure you get no "extra" fluid in the gears. Also what kind of fluid are you and the other guys using, brand, weight etc etc.
I too like the mud as well, key with mud is you have to keep moving and by stopping you will allow the breather to open and vent in the water into the diff that your sitting in.
You might not even be getting water in the diff. You could be simply clogging up the diff breather and not letting it do its job. (not sure on the side effects of a blocked breather)
dntsdad just solidified my explanation of being easy on the skinny pedal and bad things happening when using too much throttle.
