Well here is a crappy cell vid. Sounds more of a tap than a knock. 3.4 swap...I wish. No cash for that. Just gotta keep this 3.0 going for a while anyway.

Snorkel is in the near future, already thinking about how I'm going to do it. I think I'm just going to pipe it up with the AFM inline and a cone filter on top.

It sounds like a train going up a hill.. that can't be good, but I imagine the audio is delayed and amplified.. Cheap speakers pick up everything.

Since you didn't clarify and no one else has asked, right away when you locked it up did you get all the water out?

sounds like you should just rebuild your heads and throw them back on.

lifter problem, not bottom end.

As soon as I got it out of the water I pulled all 6 plugs and turned it over, pushed all the water out. Took another 45 minutes or so to get her started but I did drive home.

I think I'm going to try that first. All I'll need for that are a few gaskets. I"m really hoping its a bent valve or something simple like that.

pardon my ignorance, but what do you think happened? did you suck water through the intake? did you have alot of water in the oil??

how are you making out with the truck?

The intake is right behind the drivers headlight. I sucked a ton of water in. I did drive home...slowly. I think I have a few bent valves on the drivers side, at least I'm hoping that's what it is. No water in the oil so i know the rings are good yet.

I have not had the time to open it up yet maybe over the weekend, I'm installing a wood burner this weekend sometime as well. I have a ton going on so she is sitting for a lil while till I can get her open.

good deal , i was wondering what you figured out.

so what happened is the water gets sucked in and goes through the head through the intake side and out the exhaust side?? I'm still a newbie. Nothing but air is supposed to pass through there right?? gas and air right?? I sound like a dork when i ask stupid questions like this, but while i am stalled with my stuff i want to figure out how this stuff all works so that i know what i am talking about in the future.

does that all mean it's NOT hydro-locked???? wouldn't that be sucking water into the crankcase?? again a stupid question.

splain it to me.

Were all learning

Hydro-locking is when there is water in the combustion chamber. Water (liquids) will not compress as air does thus causing the engine to lockup.

After I was pulled out I pulled all the plugs and cranked it over and it pushed out all the water from the spark plug holes. Then I had to dry everything out (WD-40). Took about an hour or so to get it going again.

Many times you can bend connecting rods and or blow out main bearings and or other things. Water in the intake is just not good at all...I'm hoping it's only a valve issue and not a wrist pin. The tapping is definitely coming from up top and not below.

There was a ton of water in this thing, when I pulled #2 water poured out, the remaining water in the intake came out through that plug.

If you get into a little bit of water it will come out through the exhaust, usually it will evaporate and you might have a miss for a wee bit. But if you go too deep you have issues.

If you don't think its a good idea then it probably isn't...
Don't always do what an 11 year old tells you.

The only stupid questions are the ones not asked. Well usually

.

Ahhh.......sounds like your young jedi is getting a lesson on YOTAs too. I can't wait for the day to take my boys out. Years ago I had my oldest one out, but my little guy has never been out.

Stupid questions, I will have a ton of them............

So, hydrolocked is not what I thought it was.

It's not stupid questions a lot of folks don't know what it means. When you go to work ask around and see how may guys don't know what it is. It might be a common term here and in other 4wd forums but the normal person who does not take the less driven path never has to worry about it.

The boy had a great time, until the water started coming in his side of the Runner. It was leaning a bit and the water was up his door some. Almost reached the ECU.

so you have to pull the heads, right?????

You BETTER do a complete thread with pictures every step of the way......starting with #1) open hood.......as so on and so forth.

actually, in work, i love when i am asked questions......sometimes they are beauties, but any question gives me a chance to dust off some synapses and spit out an intelligent answer. Uh, yeah, I don't think anyone would know what I'm talking about being hydro locked other than Congestive Heart Failure or something like that.......not much garage talk happens at work...hahaha

I have to pull at least the drivers head.
I'll get a bunch of pic's when I start on this. Will be the first time I've done a 3.0. I'm going to see if I can get away with doin only the divers side but knowing me I'll do both while I'm in there. Then doing the timing belt. Then doing the water pump. Then doing...
