How high do you rev your 3vze :D

you can get an msd 6al ignition box, which will allow you to use rpm modules to set your rev limit. i have one in my stang and it works very well. especially when in the rain

I've noticed the same... I can generally hit 100 like nothing on the freeway. I shift anywhere from 3k to 5k depending on the speed limit and who is around. If I'm trying to beat someone from the line ill rev to 3k and go easy on the clutch for a better powerband. That is with the stock tranny and transfer case with 31x10.50x15's on it.. So its not doing to bad..

newToyotas i don't have crazy gearing i own a 289 ford fairlane i put 4.27's in the fairlane and its still slower than my truck (4.30's) plus the fairlanes tires are 24.5 inches tall and it has rpm airgap 4 barrel and a midrange cam kit

IMO (in my opinon) then your fairlane must have issues if it can't at least compare to your truck. My truck is a great little daily driver and gets ~ok~ fuel mileage compared to my last truck(98 ext cab Z71) but I guess I've driven one too many vehicles to relate a 1995 3.0 5spd 4x4 as any kind of a performance oriented vehicle.
As a side note, I have a 1987 monte carlo with the original 305 w/125,000 miles and got it to run a 14.88@91.79 in the 1/4. It was factory rated @ 180hp and ~I believe~ the 3.0 in my truck is 150hp(?) but even though they both weigh within ~100lbs~ of each other, there is NO comparison in performance even though the monte has a much less aggressive 3.73 gear ratio. The truck ~should~ gain some on that 30hp difference considering it has a much more aggressive 4.56 gear ratio, no? I bet my truck would be lucky to run a 19 second flat 1/4 (just a guess, maybe it wouldn't even be able to run that time) and going by the seat of your pants feel, it is a dog(other than that 1200 rpm window that it supports any noticeable gain in acceleration.
Although most any motor has a peak rpm that it makes power at, I like a motor that also at least feels as if it is trying to get out of it's own way at all other rpm ranges. This is just my opinion on the 3.0 toyota motor that was supplied with my truck(which right now 'only' has 121K on it so it's not like it should be completely worn out yet).
Maybe others don't feel as strongly as I do about this same matter, but I have seen enough post 3.slo to know exactly where they are coming from.
My truck does get me back and forth to work, it has a working 4wd system, and it gets better than the ~10mpg~ that my last truck got so I am not at all trying to complain. It does exactly what it's supposed to do. Running performance oriented timeslips isn't one of those things.

Update on how high I rev my 3vze, lots of snow lately here in Alberta with a wind so snow drifts everywhere in the small town (hamlet) that I live in. Breaking trail in deep snow rev that little 3vze to 5K in first and second gear and have not gotten stuck. Girlfriend will not rev her 1992 pickup and when the snow gets deep truck stalls everytime at 2K she has been stuck 4 times even though I broke trail. Neighbour is a mechanic and he too will not rev over 2K in first and second gear, he stalls it everytime the snow gets deep and has got the truck stuck. Guess who has to pull them out everytime. Had to go up a steep hill in the next town, nobody had gone up the hill yet, first gear at 5K snow flying everwhere walked right up. Locals asked if I still had a motor or transmission left, have driven a 1000 miles since then no problems.
So the little 3vze does not mind pulling a few revs, in fact hauls ass when in lower gears and running 4 to 5K.

With an automatic, my experience varies, and yours might too.
Before with 31x9.50x15 and stock 4.10 axles, I'd get it up there over 4500 or 4700 and it would waver (this with the ECT button on).
After with 35x12.50x15 and 5.29s, I still get it to waver up over 4700 before it shifts with the ECT button on.
Original mileage on original motor, 235,276. I drive sensibly around town but when getting on the freeway, I need the speed.
Reno has alot of hills especially west on I80. I hit the freeway at 3-4 times a month.

Hmm, I noticed some of you guys taking the revs up to redline? My 4runner (5speed) losses so much power after 4500rpms and it hates going above 5k. I did install Thorley headers and a custom intake. Maybe it's running too lean?

As far as I know, ALL 3vze's had rev limiters @ 6300 rpm.
I rev mine up to 5k frequently.
For those saying they have no low rpm torque, SOMETHING IS WRONG. I replaced a lot of parts on mine this year & saw significant increase in power under 3k....fuel pump, fuel regulator, distributor, TPS.

To the OP, if you have OE spec drivetrain. You shouldn't have to shift that high driving normal. I believe you have an emissions related problem, the EGR valve would be my first concern. I rarely have to hit 3k RPM, I have the 3vze and manuel 5 speed. I barely have to touch the gas to start going.

I run 32x11.5s... with 5.29 gearing. That's what the PO put in, and I think I like it.
4000rpm in 5th gear gives me 84mph... and 16mpg. That's as high as I feel comfortable going for long periods of time. She hasn't let me down yet though, 22 hours solid driving from Bishop, CA to Vancouver, BC, Canada... at 4k. Never missed a beat (leaked 1/2qt of oil though.
In town, I always shift at 3k. 4k to get into 4th. If I'm angry, the Veezy goes to 5-5.5k before I shift.
I find I can hold my speed, with any load, up all but the really steep hills, if I'm above 3000rpm. 3400rpm is supposed to be peak torque...
3.slow? Sure, it can't match a GT-R for speed, but it keeps on going and going and going, at any elevation, any temp. Love it.
