I've got a 1993 with a 1995 engine. The original blew the rings (previous owner) at around 140,000 miles. The current engine has about 160,000+ miles on it. Still running strong. Burns a little oil though.
For anyone interested I ran accross a web site dedicated to Rebuilt and New High Performance 22R/REs and 3VZEs. The V6s are pricey though. For the money might as well go for the 3.4 or 1UZF swap. http://www.doaracingengines.com/index.html

I have 244,000 miles on my 1990 4runner with the 3.0 L. The only major problem has been the head gasket. I think once the redesigned gaskets are in place, the motor is trouble free in my opinion. It could get to 300,000 miles no problem.

242k right now.
I got it had 194k... not sure about the head gasket.
had a new radiator and a couple other things.
started running synthetic right when i got it, PO ran castrol 10-30. He took real good care of it.

You can go to the dealer/call dealer w/ VIN and see if it was done as a recall.

well this certainly is an old thread, considering it was originally started in 2007, but I will play along, when I sold my 3.0 it had 205,000 miles give or take and ran like brand new.

Just turned 224,00 on my 90,3.0.
Oil pump replaced at 186,000.
Head gaskets were done about,oh...188,000.
Have some valve chatter and a slight miss, which I'm "assuming" is due to the valve chatter. 1000 miles back, did entire tune up,incuding fuel filter.
This past summer,replaced...starter,alternator,battery. Getting ready to change power steering pump. *ugh*
Not the greatest on power, but not the worst either. Not the greatest on mpg (15-17 city,17-19 hgwy),but it could be worse, right?
