259,411 miles on my 92 4runner. Got it with 185xxx mi in 2007. Head gaskets done by Toyota sometime before that, again by me (my first HG job) in 2008, and again by me in 2012 (this time with Toyota gaskets). Was getting anywhere from 11-13 MPG up until my last HG job. Now I get 18 MPG from my mixed city/rural (max of 55mph) highway. Used to take this thing from Missoula, MT to Reno, NV and back about once a year. Now we have a car for that kinda travel. Wouldn't hesitate to load it up and hit the road though.

154,000 on my '89. Bought it with 142,000 with all original timing belt components and gaskets. Replaced all of the front end stuff and still going strong!

the problem is really the exhaust crossover. mine had the factory recall done around 90k. mine went out again at 271 at the number 6 cyclinder. gasket was fine everywhere elsse but there. the heat is what kills the gasket. eliminate the cross over and the fctory gasket and the head gasket issue would disppear completely in my opinion.

I always heard it was also improper cooling due to the passages in the head, reroute the exhaust and port the cooling pages in the head a little better you have a bullit proof motor

I just turned 201K in my '89 4Runner. Still runs strong. No HG replacement. I just got 19mpg with a mixture of in town, highway and some backcountry 4 wheeling in the snow. I don't think thats too shabby for needing a tune up.
