How to convert to SR5 Dash with pictures!
If you are looking to change to a SR5 dash with a Tachometer at least in my case it does not matter if the donor dash is from a V6 or 4cyl truck or 4-Runner. In my case I have a 94 22re with a 5-speed truck and the donor dash that I used was from a 94 4Runner. Being that both my truck and the donor had a electric speedometer is about all that seemed to matter.
I could not find any info on this conversion as how to figure out if a unknown dash was from a V6 or 4cyl being that I found my dash on ebay and the seller was not totally sure as to what it came out of other than it was a 94 I took the chance and bid on it and won. After getting the dash I was checking it out to see if there was any info written on it as far as if it was for a V6 or 4cyl and again no luck. The only thing that I knew was it did come from a 4runner since it had a warning light for the rear door installed.
Upon looking closer I noticed that the tach had an adjuster screw which I figured would allow Toyota to make one tach to work with either truck.
The first thing that I did before installing the dash was to pull the plug on my oil sending unit since it has been posted that if you install the SR5 unit on a non SR5 truck you will burn out the oil gauge. I do not know if that is true or false but why take the chance.
Next I removed the stock cluster and hooked up the SR5 cluster to see if anything worked. It seemed as if everything was working except the oil gauge being that it was unhooked at the sending unit and the speedometer since I was parked. When I started the motor the tach was working but appeared to be reading low so I hooked up my tune-up tach and noticed that the SR5 tach was showing around 600rpm while the tune-up tach was showing around 900rpm. The donor dash was from a V6 truck!
At this point I removed the the SR5 speedometer by removing the four mounting screws on the back of the cluster. By doing this I was able to reach the tachometer adjuster screw while the dash was hooked up and the truck was running.
Next I turned the idle up on the truck until the tune-up tach showed 1000rpm and then again while the motor was running I turned the adjsuter screw on the tach until it was also showing 1000rpm. I installed the speedometer, put the cover on the cluster, screwed the cluster in place in the dash and bolted everything back in place so I could drive the truck to see if the speedo was working.
Other than the parking brake warning light not working(I would guess burned out bulb) and the oil gauge waiting on the proper sending unit everything seems to works.
This might not work on all Toyota dashes for one reason or another but for my 1994 22re I was able to install SR5 cluster from a 94 v6 4-runner with a simple turn of an adjsutment screw and buying a new oil sending unit.

NICE! One of those just came into the local junk yard and I was wondering if I should grab it. This particular yard is a little expensive so I didnt even ask at the time. I may just go back now that I see how easy it is.
Good walk through. Can you say sticky?

I have a 94 Toyota 4cyl. I had back surgery so I did not try to install the SR5 cluster untill today (back hurting now so maybe I did not wait long enough). Anyway the tachometer does not work. On connector A the ETC Pattern select switch wire is missing. Are all 94 Toyota pickups wire for a tach? If so which wire does it use. I'm not a 100% sure if this tach works, but I was told it does. I do not have another one to check it with.
Any help would be great.

Any chance someone saved these pics? Found out that my 2000's previous owner probably swapped in a 4cyl sr5 cluster, and since mine is a 6cyl the tach is reading higher than it's supposed to.
I'm trying to figure out where this pot would be, so if anyone has another picture of that, that would be awesome.
