Horrible Noises, Horrible Smells Brought a tear to my eye and my heart dropped.
So recently my girlfriend has been learning to drive a stick on my 4runner, shes always done good, nothing too bad.
Today she decided to start off in second gear, all went well, great job.
She started talking about starting off in 4th. Immediately I tried discouraging her and advised her not to, but of course, she took it as a challenge.
She started from a dead stop, and wouldnt let it die. The engine started shaking and knocking like hell, my heart stopped beating and a tear came to my eyes. It made noises I am not even capable of decribing, they were horrific at the least. Then came the horrible and strong smell of the clutch burning away.
The sight of my 3.0 dieing and collapsing int he street would not stop running through my head. Whole time im yelling NOOOO OWE OWE OWE OWE!!!!!!!!
Luckily all is well with the 4runner.
Could this have any long term effects on the engine?
Could stalling in general have any effects?
Is there anything it could have hurt?

Just consider your clutch a few thousand miles older. There might have been some detonation in your engine too. That happened the time I was teaching my little brother 5-speed. He was doing great, getting it into first and everything very gently, then he got some wild hair and tried to get into first while maximizing the throttle. The 22re can make some crazy pinging when it's at full throttle, full load, and 300 rpm!!!

Clutch is now more worn out, and yeah..
No girly drive my truck anymore, I got tired of the burnt clutch smell
Must be why im replacing a clutch with 2 years on it..

When teaching girlfriends to drive stick I've learned a couple things
1. explain in as much detail as possible
2. show them through demonstration
3. keep the drivers side door unlocked
4. smack their hand if they try to hold on while you push them out

Other than the horrific dreams you will undoubtably have for the next few weeks, lasting damage to anything other than the clutch should't be too bad. I constantly teach people to drive stick in my trucks, but it is all about how you teach them. I've never had a problem.

You may have heat glazed the clutch. My buddy did that to his once and it slipped under a hard load anytime after that. It was a fairly new clutch that had to be replaced cause it was glazed.
