that sucks I had my ford backed into the side a week after I had done the body work and repainted it.
I had gone to a small party next morning I left for work and the space between the rear tire and cab was smashed in.
called my buddy who's party it had been quit angry asking who it was that had left right as I had arrived that night thought it was those kids.
he reluctantly said that it was him when he had went back to the house he thought he might have backed into my truck.
I would look at the neighbor across the street or their friends cars for rear damage as well if they backed out.

Like TNRabbit mine was totalled. I knew I wanted it back clean title or not. I ended up getting about $5200 for my 85 4Runner and bought it back for $480. Repaired it as much as needed (for me) spending under $1,000 and took a trip to Thailand with the extra $$$.
In your case you can have a clean truck again for cheap since its limited to the bed.
Junkyard bed and fresh paint on the whole truck and you're back in there with cash in your pocket. I know its value goes down but wtf, its the same truck weather it gets that mark on your title or not.
I made money on another car that got totalled but was totally repairable enough to keep and profit off of. There was a wrinkle in the pillar next to the left rear passenger that got it totaled.

yea thats ruff to wake up to, i would keep an eye out like stated previously, around you neighborhood, they had to be there to visit someone, look for your red paint on their car and then get the plate and try not to end up going to jail....Sorry for your luck, and good luck with the repair

if they dont total it i would suggest investing in an exo cage or a gnarly bumper so if it happens again you can see the color of paint that the car had that hit you. thats what happened to me. I just smiled and laughed.

Wow, I can't believe they would total your truck.
I can't find a truck like yours for less than 7-8k up here in canada.
I've heard that the insurance company might not let you buy it back. Just find a buddy willing to buy it for you then buy it from him plus a case of beer.
Flat deck it or turn it into a buggy.
I hope it all works out for you and the final outcome doesn't sting too much.

fight it if you want it fixed demand that they fix it.
make it clear that you did nothing wrong and that their client hit you.
at least she came back and told you she hit you.
do your research and know how much a truck in the same condition costs minus the big dent of course.
the adjuster will tell you some crap about they want to keep the truck so they can make some of their loss back find out how much scrap metal is going for and tell them that is what you will pay to get it back.
if you are unhappy with their offer tell the guy to get lost and you want another adjuster.
I don't know how it works legally with a hit and run and insurance company's they might just drop the client and tell you to sue them.
if you have the same insurance company you may have some leverage if you have a clean record with them.
if you have receipts for any work done and any after market parts make sure to have that all on hand to show them.
best of luck

I'd consider the buyback option - I had a scion xB that was rear-end totalled from a 35mph hit.. but after they took it to a shop and attempted some frame pulls, you'd never know it was hit, still totaled though, so i bought it back (with only 35k on the motor) and i'm at 70k lovin it (wish i didnt have to leave it in CA)...
if the buyback is cheap, then go for it and have yourself a wheelin' rig, or fight it to have them fix it - it definitely wasn't your fault..

that sucks man. around here if youve got a 1st 2nd or 3rd gen pick up and the bed gets dented beyond just a hour or two of bondo work and some paint they total them. my friends dad who is a bodyman by trade told me that its because you cant get bedsides for the beds (dont know how true that is, but i wouldnt say it isnt a possiblity)

Do you have any reciepts for upgrades? Anything you can add to the value they should pass back on to you. It made a $2,000 difference on mine. I got $5,200 in 2005 for an '85 4Runner Dlx. Not their first offer.

I looked on KBB and some other sites and it looks if you are at around 100k on miles the in excellent condition was around 4200$ if you can prove what you payed in upgrades you might be able to stretch it to 5000$ if they pay you 3800 and you pay 500 buy back that is 3300$ in the pocket.
at the least you should get at least 2000$ after buying it back and have money to fix it
