i have read several posts and i am not sure what is better do it when the engine is hot and burn your hands or do it when it is cold what do you guys think thanks.

hot worked better for me. I tried cold several times, and cold .011"/.007" and both produced a ton of tapping. .012"/.008" hot worked much better. From what ive read i may try dropping the exhaust valve clearance a little to .010 or so warm, but im currently undecided on that. As far as the heat goes, just use a pair of workgloves, and it shouldn't be an issue.
