Your hubs are always locked with the add flange drive. If you pull the plastic cover off the front wheel and look you will see a flange with a gold/zinc colored cover on it. There are six outside nuts. That is the flange. It connects the whole assembly together. If you have manuel hubs it replaces the flange and gives you the ablility to unlock the whole thing.

From what I read, this is the case. I switched on my 4runner awhile ago to factory toyota hubs and have been very happy. When you get a chance I would suggest you do it as well.

ADD has NO hubs...
It's a drive flange. Axle splines fit around it, and it's bolted to your hub assembly.

Well if you wanna pay anything less that ridiculous, try a salvage yard or Pull-a-part...
Craigslist? Ebay?
Or pay retail... @ $200.
Oh, and BTW. There are NO higher quality hubs than the OEM AISIN's that came on these trucks... So don't ask about Warns or MileMarkers.
Unless your actuator is broke, all you have to do is bolt the hubs on.
DO NOT "mod" the axle by putting a band clamp around the locking collar forcing it locked at all times.
Just bolt the hubs on and you can unlock them, or lock them and have THE SAME EXACT shift-on-the-fly system you have now...
So in summer or long drives, you can un-lock them.
Winter or whatever, run them locked... If you're lazy

Easy way to tell is lift the driver's side front tire off the ground and try to spin it (in 2H). If it won't spin, then the actuator is locked.

Alright well as of right now my front driveshaft is off the truck, but when i spun the right front tire the diff flange turned, so im figuring it is locked.
but why is it that the flange from the tcase is spinning in 2H when its in drive?

Must be something messed with the t-case shift linkage or if that is OK, then something is messed up inside the t-case itself. Could be the linkage popped off in 4H and then you move the shifter to 2H but the case stays in 4H. Test by seeing if you can shift into 4L and notice a gearing difference or not.

Well, if it shifts in between 4H and 4L, then the linkage is likely OK, unless there is something preventing it from going into 2H. But if the linkage is OK, then something inside the t-case *must* be making the front d-shaft flange turn, or there is something internal that is not disengaging the front wheel drive section of the t-case.

Man I've typed a thesis on these dang H cases recently...
The TC is more like a parasite that feeds off the tranny. They are not two different systems.
And I, like Crawler, have no personal experience to tell you where to look...

Alright so i decided to just go ahead and get a new transfer case, mine started making a weird whining noise while driving, im assuming since ive been driving it around with it stuck in 4WD, and im just going to get a used one, but i know from 89-95 toyota had the same AT tranny but two different transfer cases, does anyone know what year it was changed?
