Help! OBD 42 43, busted speedo and odo, wandering idle.
90 Runner, manual trans throwing 42 and 43 at me.
Speedometer is out, but cable turns. Tore into gauge cluster yesterday, and loosened up the housing where the speedo cable junctions with the speedo/odo body in the cluster (it was pretty stiff and wouldn't turn). Lube did a nice job of making all the little plastic gears turn, and I couldn't locate any damaged pieces. Odo spun VERY slow on a test drive, then stopped.
Speedo gear checks out fine at the trans.
Does a manual have a speed sensor? Am I missing something?
Stumped...

You know, you're likely to get quicker help if you give the text for your diagnostic codes. Otherwise, everyone you're trying to reach has to look them up for you (I certainly don't have them all memorized), and the one you want to get an answer from just might pass.
Yes, all Toyota trucks have a speed sensor (that's why you got code 42). When you have the mechanical drive (as you do), the sensor is a reed switch located in the Combination Meter (cluster). http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../6combinat.pdf I can't help you on a repair to the cluster, and the manual just says to replace the speedometer.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I just figured I was on a forum where friendly folks might want to lend a hand. I know I wouldn't mind looking up a code for someone in need, but I guess that's just me. Sorry to bother you.
