HELP! Lost all power in engine. Timing chain?
94 22re 2wd
Replaced timing chain 6000 miles ago. Head gasket 3000 miles ago.
Was driving home from work and got about 2 miles from the house when all the sudden I lost all engine power. wouldn't start at first but then i got it to start but sounds super clunky. was thinking timing chain so i didnt want to try and run it with the clunkyness happening so as not to break things. where should i start to naroow it down. like i said the first thing that comes to mind is timing chain slipping teeth, but i an intermediate level mechanic so help is much appreciated.

Pull the valve cover and take a look at your chain. If it is still running, I don't think it is your chain but that would be the quickest thing to see if anything is messed up. The clunky sound could be a rocker out of adjustment. With the cover off you should be able to get a quick visual on several things.

to say it is "running" is a little much. it turns over when i crank it and begins to run but it is so clunky sounding i hesitate to give it gas and throw a rod. it sounds like it is trying to "run" at like 100 rpms or something.

We all make mistakes. I found out that you have to have the computer connected for a truck to run, coil wire hooked up for ignition, AFM wiring connected for the air system. I am sure there are few other things I have learned as well the hard way. Congrats on getting things figured out.
