Help 86 4runner won't start
My son and his friends decided to install a new stereo in his 86 4runner 22re 4cyl EFI. After install, the car started. After turning off the car it would not restart. It cranks but won't turn over. I replaced the fuel pump, and filter. We figured out there was no power to the fuel pump. I used the blocking trick with the air flow sensor (blocked it open) the fuel pump turned on and you can now smell gas when we try to start it, still won't turn over though. We have checked and replaced good fuses just in case, also the relays. Any ideas what could be causing the car not to start?
Thanks in advance

My 86 4Runner 22R won't start
I have a similar issue except mine is just with installing a battery.
So my truck was running fine except the battery was leaking its fluid so I went to replace it. Went to Walmart and bought an equivalent battery. Put it in the truck and it wouldn't start, and I wasn't getting good connects so I replaced the terminals. After that, still wouldn't crank over. The battery was drained so I got a jump and I think the person who helped put on or removed the cables in the wrong order and perhaps fried something. At that time, I could still hear my fuel pump working and engaging when the key was turned to ACC but not anymore. I got a tow home and I replaced the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, and today I replaced the MSD SS blaster coil and even the COR fuse and it still won't crank over. I've tried spraying starter fluid down the weber and nothing. All the fuses tested out good. Truck was fine until I went to replace the battery so something must have happened to the electrical along the way, but I'm not even hearing the fuel pump turn on at this point. Any ideas? My email is matthansrecording@yahoo.com. I really need help getting this running ASAP. Mahalo!
Also, what's the "block" trick to get the fuel pump to work?

I am not as familiar with the 22r, but you said you may have had the jumper cables crossed when charging the battery. I seen that happen and blow the 80 amp fuse. Is it good.
A 22r has a fuel pump on the passenger side of the block so the jump trick wont work on yours. That is for the EFI motor.
Again not sure of the 22r, but the white lead that goes from the positive cable to the fuse box if a 22r has one, that is the fusible link. It mostly looks like a heavy guage wire. Is it blown?
