Which header
#21
I honestly hate the sound of my exhaust. Around 2900rpm it starts to sound horrible, like when a semi truck hits the engine brake going down a hill. I always try to shift before it gets up there to avoid the embarassment of the noise.

Well, I think it sounds great!!! lol! It has a good tone and sounds so so sweet in 4lo down a steep hill!! I'm using Downey's cat back kit which utilizes a Magnaflow hiflow cat and flow thru muffler plus thier header. It is 2.5" diameter stainless exhaust tubing thru out.

You guys are pretty funny early in the morning.
My two cents: Pile, sounds like a nice system you've got. I agree with the customer service @ Downey. I personally have bought 2 Thorleys at the either the muffler shop or the Dyno shop and since they did the pipework behind the header they gave me a good price on the part.
In both situations a connector pipe had to be made from the header to the cat so I had to go into the shop anyways.
My truck sounds great and the throttle response is better. Not amazing but better.
To the guy that hates his sound and shifts early to avoid it, put your cat back in. I tried putting in a straight pipe, spent $$ to have one made with bolt on flanges and everything. Took it out 2 days later because it sounded so bad.
Hope this helps anybody interested.
I have a 2 1/2 in pipe the rest of the way back and a Bullet muffler

Oh yeah and whats with the ceramic coating? I've never even considered getting that because (1) the manifold doesn't come that way factory and (2) heat under the hood is never a problem.
I don't care how they look in 50,000 miles but if you do, keep your hands clean when you install them.
Don't think I paid more than $260 for my last one.

Hmmm...thanks for the tip. I might give that a try. I've spent so much on the exhaust as it is I'd hate to put more into it, but the sound is so aweful I might have to.

Holy thread hijack.
Welcome to Yotatech!!!!
I don't know much about the 3.0, but this thread was mainly about the 22R-E. HOWEVER, if you use the search button at the top you'll probably find alot of answers for what you need.

Someone, somewhere, said that Downey & Thorley headers look EXACTLY the same and were probably made by the same manufacturer. I compared the pics and tend to agree. So since the Thorley ceramic kit from Summit is cheaper than Downey, that's the way I'd go if money was an issue.:
Downey is a 4 into 1 design
My paint hasn't bubbled on my hood and my plug wires are happy.
Oh yeah, exhaust pipes rust and corrode from the inside out. Its mighty moist in there. I guess the coating could hide a pinhole a bit longer than an uncoated pipe would.

IIRC LC using a 2.25" cat back kit, but I went cheap(apparently...) and went with Downey's system. Honestly, if I get(and it WILL happen) another truck I'll go with a 2.25" exhaust just to see. These motors are not low rpm torque monsters anyways. I can TELL when the power band peaks. Maybe one day I'll put in an engbldr cam!!! lol!
Do I like what I have-Yes.
Does it sound good-Yes.
Does it intimidate Ricers-Oh yeah.
Does it perform-Yes.
