Ok ran out to the bank on Monday during lunch and the battery light was on...so I didn't shut it off. On my way back to the office I shut it down and it wouldn't start do I popped the clutch and it was alright. Tach was bouncing all over the place.

After work it started and ran just fine, no light either. Half way home the battery light came on so I drove to Advanced Auto (the battery is old, how old I donno) they said I had a bad cell. Replaced the battery and same thing. Battery light on and bouncy tach. I think I have a bad ground somewhere. Will look into it this evening some if I have time.

Other than that she runs great!!!

Thanks guys...What I think I need to do is run a ground from the battery to the old ground where the battery was. I have the new ground going to the head by ways of the P/S pump mount but that may not be enough. I also am going to check the ground on the alt and the plugs on the alt.

Ok, I added an additional ground and had it with the alt ground. Cleaned them up and the light was still on. Check the voltage running and it was 12.5 so off to Advanced Auto I went. Had them check it and the alt never showed up during the test. Love the life time warranty. I should have it in a few days. I just don't have time to mess with it for a few weeks.

O well at least I know it was not me or something I did or didn't do. Bad battery and bad alt.

Ok changed out the alt and all is well!!! Drove to work today and round a bit yesterday seems to be holding tight and all is dry.

As I said before, I'm not going to bother with the dyno but my "seat-of-pants" says it's got more pull now. So 268 cam + 2.25 exhaust - cat + Street RV head = More go.

Drive by coming soon...

Well after fueling up on a full tank I have good news as long as my math is correct. Before the new head and running the 268 cam I was getting about 17mpg and that's with compensating 8% for the 31's on 4.10's. Now with the new R/V head I got almost 21mpg using the 8% for the tires.

Even if my 8% is a bit off I'm still getting better mileage than I was before the rebuild. So that makes me a happy camper!!!

Gotcha! I figured out I'm getting around 17-city, LOTS of stop and go(you know, the 'SEA OF RED' you've heard of when people refer to L.A.???, hahaha).

I'm going to fill up at a frwy onramp and try her out again to see......haven't done ANY FRWY other than that one test drive, weeks ago(Was nice though, ...having her do 90-and wanting more ).

Look forward to your results and REALLY happy for you that you're not having any issues, Lumpy! ROCK ON! lol.

Well I have almost 3K on her now and I have a bit of an issue that has slowly gotten worse. I'm thinking its a timing thing like it's not advancing when is should. Some days it'll be just fine and others its a bit sluggish like I'm towing something. You give it gas and it just doesn't getup and go as it should. Other days it takes off. Does the same hot/cold/dry/wet/day/night/empty tank/full tank. Sometimes it's fine then while your accelerating it falls on its' face and becomes sluggish. I don't think is vacuum related but not ruling that out.

Also the tach will bounce only while accelerating. Just holding speed it does not bounce.

Gotta wait till the weekend to mess with it.

My thoughts are that the pickup inside the dizzy may need cleaned. All connections seem to be tight and I have checked all grounds and added and additional ground.

Can one of you guys send me some good pictures of your vacuum connections at the rear of the motor where the EGR stuff is. I want to be sure I have the FPL and EGR stuff routed correctly. I may have a vac line or 3 switched around. So Pics of the back of the vac rail will really help out.

Still getting about 20+ mpg mixed driving so that's a plus. Can't wait to see how it does after I get this ironed out.
