What type of trails do you have in your area? Mud? Rocks? Gravel roads? Lots of articulation required, or just pure unadulterated balls deep plowing in power?

Timing for the 3.0 is 10*BTDC. Make sure it is at least advanced that far. You can go more, but you really have to be careful about knocking or the knock sensor will take any gains away...

When I bought my '93, the timing was AT TDC. putting it back to 10*BTDC made a HUGE difference.

I run my timing at 16*BTDC. It will lower your power band a little, giving you better throttle response. You can always adjust it, test it out, adjust, test, etc. The more you advance it, the higher octane fuel you will need to keep the engine from pinging. I had a friend who always ran his at 23*BTDC, but he had to at least run 92 or higher octane. I thought that was really pushing it.

my .02

level 1
aftermarket front and rear bumpers. ARB/TJM front or something more "custom"

BJ spacers and coils (and or spacer) in the rear, ditch the running boards... slap some 33's on it and you got a rig that will wheel well and DD fine.

level 2 includes rear locker (my vote is detroit) and winch and rockrails

level 3 includes SAS and 35's

I would also add a roof rack along the way. I use mine a surpriseing amount.
