88 4 runner, 22re.

I have a hard start issue. To get the truck to start and stay running I have to hit the pedal a time or two. It also cranks for a long time too. Once up and running it seems fine and runs great, only happens at start and it's worse when cold. Attempting to trace the issue, I pulled a couple vacuum lines and found fuel in the one coming off the fuel pressure regulator. I know that isn't right so it is probably toast. That makes sense doesn't it? Would this cause my hard start issue? Just wanted to get another opinion before I drop $100+ on the part.

All ignition parts are new. Fuel injectors are new. All sensors have been checked and TPS slightly adjusted.

 

either way your not wasting the $100 for the regulator. Also research CSI or cold start injector.

 

Tested the cold start injector cold and hot, all good there.

 

A leaking diphram in a Fuel pressure Regulator will cause cold starting issues as unmetered fuel is being pulled into the intake flooding the engine with fuel. The same issue with a leaking Cold start injector. I would recommend you change the FPR.

 

I think that is the next step. Anything tricky to changing one out? Looks like I will need to remove the EGR pipe first.

 

Pulled the old FPR today. The top of it (where the vac line is) was full of fuel. It's shot right?

 

Yep. Diaphragm is broken and causing the problems described above by Kiroshu.
