so, i'll update. my 2nd '87 4r sr5, the white one with the freshly rebuilt 22re and a marlin transmission, is now consistently posting 22 to 24 mpg over the last 4 or 5 tanks of gas. i'm thinking the rebuilt motor has come into it and is running efficiently. rebuild has about 5k miles on it now, just did a third oil/filter change yesterday, now should be good for 4.5 to 5k miles per change.

i still have a hard time picturing a dually 1-ton, with a 22re and auto, in RV guise, making 18 to 20 mpg. i'd expect 12 to 15 at the best with that setup.

Very nice 4 Runners. I really should get a front valance some day, its been on my list for 8 years. I have Wild Country snow tires, would not recommend but I do get the discount on insurance for running snow tires.
