gas gauge no work
Switched over to an "SR5" gauge in my 87 from what i believe was an 86 4runner. Now my fuel gauge don't work. stays to empty. I know there is at least 3/4 of a tank in there.
Would it be different pinouts, different sender?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks.,
BTW I don't think the truck was prewired for the tach either since that's not working either.
Water temp works, and have the oil sender out for a "real" oil pressure gauge.

cluster came out of an auto with 4cyl. gas gauge works with old unit, just swapped back to old one and gas gauge shows 1/2 tank.
Could it be an issue with carb vs efi?
As for the tach, it doesn't move at all. Which leads me to believe I am one of the unlucky ones that isn't prewired and have to run that wire from the tach diag connector to the tach screw.

There may be a difference in the wiring. The '86 and up wiring connector at the fuel tank is a 3-connector plug [at least on 4Runners]. Your '85 may be wired differently. I'm sure it can be made to work. If your '88 cluster came from a V-6 the tach will always be off with a 4-cyl.
I'll crack it open again when I have a free weekend and hope that a 3rd time of trying will cause the solution to suddenly appear!

EFI to EFI.
There is a small chance the truck's previous engine was a carb, but that was several owners ago. I'm not really certain, nor do I know how to determine this. Currently it's a 22re.
EDIT: errr... I assumed this was a question to me. Sorry if it was not

thanks, havent gotten to this yet, as I am working on the mother-in-laws chevy k1500 door handles inside and out.
Then I got to figure out why my alternator and brakes lights are on.

Got the cluster pretty much local. Couldn't find the exact one so I had to settle for one out of an auto efi 4runner. Besides $30 was a good deal I thought.
