fuel woes

i am trying to get my truck started again, it started after i rebuilt the motor but now won't start without starting fluid. it is a 22r motor carburated and i have changed the fuel pump and filter ,still no gas up to the carb so i blew through the line and heard the gas in the tank bubble so i know the gas line is clear but the sending unit doesn't register with 5 gallons of gas so i dropped the tank and broke three bolts around the tank in the proccess took the sending unit out and fixed it until i put it back in,then it didn't work again but the lines are still clear .is 5 gallons enough from an empty tank it's a head scratcher, probably something simple but i am not afraid to ask help.

i got the truck closer to home by taking the line from the pump to the carb and squirted gas down the line. the truck fired up and i was able to drive it he last 1/4 of a mile to my house, but there is still no gas coming out of the pump i am going to have to rig a remote start to check the pump. it started and drove the 30 miles to colfax and back, now it just is getting no gas. i put 5 gallons into an empty tank,is that enough or should i add more? could the bolt for the eccentric have come loose? what is the line diagam mine was all disconnected.
