fuel injector connector splice
I'm swapping a 90 22re harness onto what I believe is an 85-88 22RE. I'm taking the intake plenum/throttle body from the 90. The connectors are different for the injectors between the 2 harnesses -question, can I splice in the old connectors? I could switch the injectors, but I wanted to leave the fuel rail alone.

not sure why you want to use the old injectors.. but..
Make sure the inectors you use match your set up.. Some of the older injectors require a resistor box to operate correctly.. Newer injectors have the resistors built into the injector.

Those are two different types of injectors different impedance this could get real interesting.
If your swapping the Harness does that include the ECU as well??
Not sure with out looking but things very well could be different.

Why even take a chance on common consumable parts like this??

so if you are running the newer ecu, and you don't have those things hooked up, i wonder if you'll be throwing a code.
if it's an early 22re truck, all you have to change out is the tps on the tb, and calibrate it... you can even use the existing tb cable, by trimming the end slightly with a die grinder, and drilling out a dorman help cable nut from your local flaps.
if you going to chop off the old injector connectors, just replace 'em with new, they are cheap... be sure and use solder and high-quality shrink tube and high quality self-fusing electrical tape.
since you are working with the engine harness anyway, i would suggest cutting it open at the factory injector splice area, and redo those connections, since they rust out and fail... search the archives for this, it should be done on every truck.

It's a 90 4runner and the hg blew. I got a cheap 22re that I was told was early 90's but turns out it's a little earlier from what I see. I've removed both intake plenums and discovered that the injectors have different connectors. So the question is will the 90 injectors fit into this older engine? I was expecting this to be a plug n play job to get the truck on the road. Grateful for any advice

true, sorry for confusing description...I have both engines out sitting side by side..removed both harnesses, but the 90 harness will stay and I'll try pulling the fuel rails and injectors next

if the part numbers for the orings, strainers, etc. are the same, it's a good sign that the injectors have the same shape.
i guess all that really matters is how they fit at the injection end, because you'll be using all of the '90 fuel rail and such.
