Find out where the vehicle is registered and call the local DMV, they should have record of it since the mileage has to be reported when a vehicle changes owners (and I think it gets recorded during a safety inspection but I'm not sure). If the mileage is lower than it was last reported at then you'll know for sure, if it's close to what it was last reported at it was either barely used (aka parked) or rolled back.

As for the utility of a dump box, unless you're moving a lot of dirt or firewood around, I don't see how useful one would be. I've been considering a dump feature for the new bed I'm going to be putting together for my truck, since I have a farm and move a lot of crap around. Even then I can barely see the utility of one if my truck can't lug around more than 1 ton without significant drivetrain/engine/suspension upgrades.

e: Just saw how that dump box is setup, completely worthless, the piston is too close to the pivot point and I doubt that box can lift more than a few hundred pounds.

Not real sure about the the dump bed, and the convertible top looks funny, but its a nice little truck. If you don't plan on doin any wheelin or major haulin with it, i would say go for it, as long as the miles are original.

I'd go with a wooden bed before that dump bed... BOOO CONVERTIBLE! BOOO! I'd rather go for one with a roof that'll keep you dry when it rains, especially for a daily driver

just got back home from looking at the truck.it looks good and fire right up,4 x 4 works and runs good,no leaks, interiors are in good shape.the guy bought it 3 years ago and drove it around his property and never registered .no radio and no seat belts because they cut the top and put the convertible top.he has the hard top too.the emergency flashers don't work.i'm thinking about it now if i'm going to make him an offer or pass.not in mint condition like he said on the ad but it's ok.oh and the dump bed it's probably not that powerful but i think it has more power than i was thinking but that was without a load and i know with a load of wood may be a different story.not 100% sold on the truck but i kind of like it

Once you can confirm that the mileage is legal, and if you have welding skills, and if by hard top you mean the original top of the cab and he throws that in for free, go for it. You can deal with the poorly setup dump box later. You should consider how much work on it you'll have to do to get it in whatever shape you're after (road legal or otherwise) before making any sort of offer. The ad said mint but it's clearly not, so try to bring him down on the price. Considering the year and the KBB of similar years, $3,300 is what you'd expect to see for one in near perfect condition (no rust, and everything works), so take this into account.

Exactly two and a half. All our trucks have two and a half interiors. Engine compartment, cab, and that little storage area behind the bench seats...

well , put it this way, you may not like the bed, nor the top, but the engine and compartment plus parts alone, were proly that much money, and the interior is freakin fabulous. Now add another 1000 bucks for the wheels and tires, and it also has a very nice front bumper. For those items alone, he proly has 6k worth of parts/work into it.

oh yeah; to Mat90; that is some excellent Homage work there, and from
the only Austin Powers that really mattered- except Fat Basterd in the 2nd movie was quite exceptional...
