I work at a muffler and tire shop and have put 40 and 44s on many different kinds of vechicals. Its hard to get a 4 cylinder to sound mean and agressive. It is all gona depend on what you like. I couldnt say one would be better than the other. I put a free fart can on my 89 pickup with a 22re and man that thing is loud. I can set car alarms off haha.

I've been considering getting a Dynomax Super Turbo muffler for my 22RE. It's only $46.99 at Jegs.com.
I don't really want it to be loud and I've listened to a few old 80's corolla's on Youtube with the Super Turbo and it sounds pretty good. Plus, you can't really beat the price.

is the flowmaster 44 the same as the super 44? I have a super 44 on my 92. My setup is: LC headers--2.25in piping to glasspack, 2.25in pipe to the super 44 and 2.5in pipe out to the tail pipe. It drones at around 2200-2600rpm but once you punch it, it screams. It's somewhat deep but doesn't resonate like a 3vz does. I'm sure it's too loud for Hawaii but it's ok back in home.
