Fixed rough idle on 22re!
My engine used to idle terribly. Today I replaced my thermostat and found that the wire going to the top of the temp sending unit on the t-stat was broke. I cut off the old connector and crimped on a female end instead and plugged it in. When I started my truck to check for leaks, I found that it idled much better. Just thought I would let you guys know in case you have the same problem.

Interesting.. I have an 85 4Runner and it idles fine, but every once in a while after its warmed up, i will get a quick drop in the rpm.. Not enough to stall the vehicle.. Kind of like a loose wire that's not connecting.. I've noticed my wiring is getting old.. Sound familiar or completely different?

Sounds about the same. The wire that was going to the top of the sensor was hanging on by one strand. I haven't driven mine around long enough to know if it won't drop back down.

An automatic uses that temp sensor for overdrive. The one in green below goes to the computer for fuel ratio.
