First impressions on Vortex Muffler

well i did get everything straightened out with the muffler. Jason did a good job of takin care of all of it in a hurry. Welllll i got it installed today with new 2 1/4 pipe from muffler back. It DOES NOT have a tip on it just ends. I have to say that it is not loud at all and the throaty sound that is heard in the cab like in Jasons pictures does not apply for me. I would prefer it to be much louder. And it kinda stinks too. Kinda smells like burnt chicken. I have a stock catalytic convertor, 2 1/4 pipe going into the muffler and 2 1/4 out. Is this the setup you Vortex owners use? Also would adding a tip help refine the sound and make it more throaty? If so, what type of tip do i need to purchase?

Doesnt need a new thread so i figured i would add this down here. I have this sound comin from the rear end of my engine during acceleration. It sounds like a wet fart honestly. It makes more noise then my new Vortex does. Hell, my engine makes more noise then my Vortex does. Is there any way to diagnose this noise and also is there any way to make my engine quieter so the little bit throaty sound i get from my vortex can be heard?

Give it a few days and the smell will go away..

the muffler will probably also get louder after a few days also.

I just had a system put on a couple of days ago. After the tech got the truck off the lift he came out and said if I wanted more sound to put a 3" tip cut at a 45 degree angle. Said it would increase sound by ten fold. If this is fact or fiction I just don't know. Thought I would throw it out there. The guy works at a muffler shop so ya would think he would know.

I had a 14" magnaflow system ( no cat, 2.25" to 14" magnaflow, then 2.5" out the back behind tire) put on Tuesday after work and believe it or not by Friday it actually got quieter on my truck as it "broke in."

It is a little raspier now, but definitly not as loud all the time as it was. I heard it would get louder too, but that was not the case on my truck. The power gain is still there but noise has decreased. I have a stench too but I just figured it was from the cat being removed.

Sounds nice though.

i guess i dont really have all that many choices here. I think im just gonna put a tip on it to try and clean it up a little bit and leave it at that. Eventually down the road ill buy a free flow cat or just gut mine. Anyone know where i can get one of those shorter, rounder tips like the TRD or the Borla one? Can you buy just a tip from them?

I bought the dynomax system and noticed the power and it had a nicer tone, my 80 sounds like farting in a can right now, so im gonna get a glasspack just to make it easier on the pocket. and my 85 i didnt run a tailpipe and it was DEEP! so i bet tips quiet the noise some, maybe put a turn down on it? What youll need to do is run no muffler. that will make it loud.

If your talking about a vortex cherry bomb long red glass pack then no it wont get that loud. i had one put on mine. after a week or so it did get a little louder but not by much. 89mcrunner was right though the smell will go away. i personally like the sound though. has a nice deep idle and doesnt sound like a pissed off weedeater in the higher rpms.

I hope that happens to mine. I just had a magnaflow put on (2 1/4" all the way, probably the 14" but I'm not sure) and it sounds like a 2-stroke farting in a bathtub, amplified about 100x. Annoying as hell, in my opinion. With the stock muffler and headers, I had a nice low rumble, a little rasp, and it didn't set off alarms every time I tried to accelerate.

The guy at the shop offered to throw a standard muffler back on there for $50, but I'll have to eat the costs of the magnaflow.

The minimal power gain isn't worth it to me if I have to listen to that constantly. Sound like I'm being following by an RM250.

Wow, mine isn't nearly that bad...

Did you see/hear my video clip?

Here, listen and see if this is like yours...

http://www.ovrrdrive.made2own.com/Magnaflow.wmv

Maybe the difference is that I don't have headers nor do I have a cat...

Maybe the difference is the 2.5" out the back of the muffler...
