First Gen Runner w/IFS can't decide on lift
I have a 87 4runner with stock IFS. I have installed
a 4crawler 3 inch body lift and want to go a little more,
2 to 4 inches.
I cant decide on 2 inch ball joint spacers or a 4 inch IFS lift.
I will probably go with 33 to 34 tire size so space in not an issue, but quality is. I don't want to be doing maintainance
on the front end due to wear caused by a lift etc. I won't be
doing any heavy off roading the truck is driven mostly on the street and used for camping, and light off roading etc.
I don't want to go SAS because I won't be doing anything that would be extreme.

you already have 3" in body? that's enough lift for the tires you're talking about now. to go more would give you an unusually large fender well gap. do you plan to reduce the body lift if you add suspension lift?
i currently have the 1.5" bj spacers up front, MINOR torsion lift, and +2" leafs in back. combine that with 1" b.l. and a little inner fender hammering on the pinch weld. my truck looks proportionate, lift to tires. i'll attach a pic below.
you're describing lift for 35"s at least.
if all you're doing is mild trail riding for camping, what wabbit suggested above is great, except his kit has an add a leaf. you can do an add a leaf, or increase your shackle size as an alternative for the rear. but you will be sitting tall with 2" susp. + 3" body.
here's mine with 33s, 1" b.l. 2" susp. imagine 2 more inches of fender gap with +3b.l.

Honestly, I would ditch the BL and go with the WabFab kit. However, if you plan on hauling a butt load of gear in the back then I'd suggest you search for the Zuk mod or pm Junkers88 about it. It will lift your butt, give a good ride and support lots of gear.

I did a 1.5" ball joint spacer in the front with some 14" 125lb per inch coils added in the rear (Zuk mod that Bigbluepile mentioned). I have enough room to clear 33's and as soon as I can afford some I'll probably go that route. My recommendation to you is to pull the bod lift back out, get some 1.5" BJ spacers and either add coils or get some lift springs and replace yours. I built my rig specifically for camping and haul a lot lof gear when I go.

uhh yea..with just a straight 4in lift..you can clear 35's pretty easily..(idk about off road..but on road FOR SURE) with the 3" body lift..you can clear 36's anywhere.lol

BJ spacers won't really help clear tires while offroad, because when the suspension is compressed against the bumpstop, the tire is still going to be in the same place relative to the body- so if they rubbed before BJ spacers, they will rub after as well, just a little less often.
A friend has BJ spacers, and a mild t-bar crank and he eats a lot of steering parts- at least one part/ trip. That isn't even doing anything really hardcore either.
A body lift will make it look lifted if that's what you're after, help clear tires and not affect reliability.

if you do that suspension stuff as suggested, Wab's kit or some other method, you may want to pull those body lift blocks and just cut them in half. the 1.5" b.l. will cut chance of rub to nil and you get a little more height for the tall look you're going for, without it being up in space. 1.5 b.l. with 2" suspension is a tall looking truck on 33s but not goofy looking.
