Faulty TPS IDL - e2 FIX!
I'm new here, but figured i would share this bit of information with you guys.
I was tracking down my idle problem and decided to check my tps off of 4crawlers checks.
http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/TPS/
While checking, my VTA to e2 was .890k ohms (too high)
and my idl to e2 at all settings were O.L.
these indicated a bad TPS, which fits my idle stumble, lack of working idle up valve for AC and just an overall headache.
A new TPS at auto zone is, $67, not bad, but if i can save that money, why not.
I pulled the TPS off and noticed that the TPS has its own return spring and does NOT return based off the throttle plate. I also noticed that the tps was NOT returning to full stop and the spring was obviously stretched out.
So i pushed it back to full stop and rechecked the tps....it works fine. so the spring is bad, not the sensor.
IF YOURS STILL TESTS BAD AT FULL STOP, IT IS BAD, GO BUY A NEW ONE.
otherwise....try to fix it, its broken anyways, you cant make it work less.
I took the spring and popped it out of its holder and it uncoiled, i grabbed the end and bent the tab away and pulled it around as tight as I could.
I then bent a new stop tab on the spring and locked it into place.
Now it returns to full stop on its own.
Reinstalled and recalibrated the TPS and BOOM, smooth idle, idle up with AC works now.
Enjoy.
