Exhaust leak? Or bigger problem?
So I was driving to Vallejo today in the rain and everything was fine. In the slow lane cruising at 65 mph. A little hill came up and I had to downshift to make it over the hill, after I went over I realized the truck was making a really wired noise. Sounded like a very big exhaust leak. Exit to the nearest Chevron, checked it, there was a small leak, but it was there from before. I drove down the street to realize I have NO power at all. Had to rev the engine to make it go. Drove back to Chevron, parked it, and the truck dies. Wouldnt idle. I started it back up, but still it wouldnt idle. I had to keep my foot on the gas. It was stilll driveable. Drove it back home, but with no power at all. Truck starts but wont idle, and there is a big exhaust leak sound.
I'm going to go check on it right now, but I wanted to know if an exhaust leak would cause my truck to act this way. Or is it something else?

Thanks in advance

A huge exhaust leak would cause a noticeable loss of power, but that same leak would be easy to find. Did you check along the exhaust manifod or even the spark plugs? I bought an 87 runner last month and had similar problems driving it home. Pulled over and found that #1 plug was loose and was in by only a thread or two.

I just did. Checked everything. havent checked the spark plugs, but I will. its pretty loud, I'm thinking it may be a rod knock now.
Never had this happen, but if the engine was knocking would I still be able to drive it? Idle?

Sorry to hear. LC has good stuff but can get pricey and it sounds like you're on a budget. Have you looked here:

No, but I will definitely check that out. Yes, I am on a budget. College+rent+4wheeling doesnt really get along so good. lol But hey I will get it done though.
The good thing is my rod didnt shoot out of the block. But I am wondering if I should get a new engine because it was knocking for awhile. I'd say an hour? Drove from Vallejo to Sacramento and parked it at my grandmas place.

Thanks for the info. I live pretty close to TAP in Rancho Cordova and Attarco is only a couple hours away in Richmond.
I only need a bottom block though or should I get a whole new engine
