Giant blanket of stress lifted! I thought this might be a goner but I lucked out with a good machine shop almost an hour from my house through the mountains. This week I’m finally going to purchase a gasket/timing kit. Recuérdate que yo vivo en Puerto Rico, no tengo dinero para tener una guagua “de show”. Por eso, I will be buying said kits from Rock Auto. Unless anyone can jump in and provide a good reference for yotashop.com.... they have a DNJ kit that is pretty much the same price with shipping as the ITM kits on Rock Auto. From what I’ve read of people going through Ted at engine builder (engine bewilder or something) he always used DNJ parts and sounded like a reputable Toyota bro. I was going to buy an Aisin headgaksket but the reviews said they had a made in Taiwan stamp sooooo I’m not all too concerned with running a DNJ or ITM headgasket.... unless of course any lurkers out there have had a negative experience with these products then I’ll reconsider.

Enginetech head bolts and thrust washers from Rock Auto, DNJ gasket kit from amazon. Also ordered an Aisin headgasket through amazon that I will be using instead of the DNJ. Still waiting on Cloyes HD timing kit

Unsure of these, they were in the same bag as valve grommets, half moons, and oil pump o-ring
Pretty much looks the same from pictures I’ve seen of Toyota replacements but I’ll still run the Aisin I bought and keep this as a spare

Long time no talk, finally committed and have the engine out. Today I’ll finish cleaning the bay and other parts, swap over some misc missing pieces to the new engine, try to get it dropped in before dark, and pray that it fires hopefully tomorrow

Hey Aviles, glad to hear your family is safe! I’m in San Juan so my house shook like a piece of tembleque for maybe 20sec. I have a friend in Guanica and they didn’t have damage either but it was enough to knock almost everything off the walls. Friends in Aguadilla still don’t have water or electricity.

Got it installed and the came a problem that keeps me up at night...
This is the first time I’ve ever rebuilt, pulled, then installed a motor. It was a fight and did most of it solo with a copy of the FSM. While removing the instake, I broke a 10mm screw underneath holding the fuel lines to the manifold and thought nothing of it. Then came time to fill with coolant, behold a bodacious leak from said broken bolt . Then I had to take it all out again and remove the cover to extract the broken bolt. With a torch and suave touch I still managed to break 4 more. I was able to remove the pieces and only had to drill and tap one. Some time, new gasket and a lil ultra grey = all good. I still need to play with the carb and timing as it isn’t idling totally smooth. The only thing that is killing me is this noise in the video. It happens only when RPM’s are high in neutral, and also while I’m shifting it happens at then end/beginning of each gear but goes away when I accelerate. To be truthful the only bolts I did not use a torque wrench (just a 1/4” Milwaukee impact) were the flywheel bolts but I did put red thread locker. I was extremely meticulous assembling the block, lubricated everything. I doused the block and head in oil before closing it all up and primed the oil pump (at least I think I did when I turned the key for less than 20sec with the ignition wire unplugged). It took a while to get it to fire as I realized I had really bad grounds. But anyways, it’s better than what the sound was in the old motor that happened in all gears all the time at any speed.
