Early and late 22R oil pans swap?
I spun a bearing on my 86 22R-TE, and have access to an early model 22R-E out of an 83 Celica to swap in as a replacement. Obviously, I'll need to swap oil pans. Do they interchange between the two?

As far as I know, the pans should swap. Just make sure you change the oil pick-up tube from yours to the Celica's too.
Now, on the other hand, if you're keeping the turbo, you'll find the blocks are different enough (oil return from the turbo), not to mention the compression ratio, etc. that is unique to the turbo'd engine, that it's not that simple of a swap. The heads are different- intake and exhaust are different port shapes, etc.

Will the oil pan clear the crossmember and sway bar? I'd chek measurements first. I have never dealt w/ celica oil pans but the old sfa truck oil pans won't fit and 2 wd oil pans will not fit in 4wd's. Or is it the other way around? if u strait axle it u can run whatever u want.

It's a moot point right now, I'm holding off for a later model 22R motor.
