It may also be your e brake rod itself. My e brake wore out some of the metal where it slides so it can't make contact with the switch to turn it off. Look under the dash and check if when you dine gage the brake it hits that button.

Pretty much two things low fluid level or a problem with the switch.
I have seen the switch vibrate loose . Very seldom do they fail.
Another thing that I see fairly often is the front cable is starting to break and fray not allowing the lever to return all the way to operate the switch.

Mine is doing something similar in my '95 RN105 4x4 .. When I press the brake pedal at night, the rear brake light does not get any brighter at all. It just stays bright as if I'm pressing the break pedal even though I'm not. The handbrake it fully released whilst I tried it..
Any ideas? Tail lights and bulbs are all new.
Sorry for hijack

Did you ever get this resolved? On mine there is a button that needs to be pushed in to make the light go off. Sometimes if the brake line isn't adjusted right the brake handle won't push all the way in to engage the button.
