how would you crack that? all it is is a sheild if I'm not mistaken; it's not structural, and doesn't have anything to do with the operation of the drive line
it could more than likely be completely removed, and you'd never tell the difference
now I'm pretty sure it splits in half so that you can get access to the bolts that mount the drive shaft to the flange on the transfer case; maybe that's what you're seeing as "cracked"?
I can't say for sure; I tried to find a pic online, and I can't find one; and my 91 isn't sitting in my driveway anymore for me to go and look to be 100% certain

if you are talking about the guard, dont worry about it, it will just make you worry. it will not hurt anything and is ok.. BUT, post a picture so we yotanerds can give you absolute service..
