Door Speakers!

Does anyone know If I can fit a 6.5" Round speaker into my door If I cut a hole and mounted it towards the front of the door? FYI I DONT have the wing windows so I thought I would ask.. Also could someone please tell me how to take the door panel off?

sure you can. door panels easy, on the late 80s models, you just take the grab handle off, take off the opening handle, and the panel comes off.

hah no need to even take the door panel off really...

depending on the speaker, you may want a spacer or your not gonna be able to roll the windows down.

^^^

You are going to have to do something like that with your's otherwise you wont be able to roll down the windows like stated, esp with a 6.5 inch speaker as I think the stock ones or 5.25 or something smaller

I believe that the only trucks to get door speakers were ones with wing windows, probably for a reason too

The '86..., Not sure what the Taco has for a sound system, I know its got Pioneer's behind the seats and a JVC headunit, my bro did everything to it and when he passed away I got it, Hell I can't even explain its 14 second 1/4 mile time and how it does it being N/A... I have a set of doors with the wing windows, but those wing windows are gay because the seals dry up and leak all the time sorta like the ones on my van...

Be careful of the mounting depth of your speaker the window track limits the depth to 1.75" from the door panel board to the window track. You want to be sure the speaker magnet is not in contact with the track and also allow for some movement of the speaker, I'm installing some custom panels and speakers in mine right now and I'm allowing almost 3/8ths of an inch for clearance. I will be posting a tech article on the project soon.

If I recall, remove the two large Phillips screws in the door handle, the small one on the pull handle, and pop the lever arm off from inside. You'll have to search on here how to do that exactly. There are a few plastic snap connectors along the bottom and a couple on the leading edges. Careful not to break them as they're anywhere from $3-15 (yes, $15!) per connector if you're goofy enough to order them from Toyota. NAPA and other places sell generic ones.

I removed my map pockets and with a simple kitchen knife (serrated) cut holes in the cloth and fiberboard to match my speakers. For reference, I used the previous version of these http://www.infinitysystems.com/car/p...=CA&Region=USA and fit them in, no problems. The panel does bulge out slightly, but it's barely noticeable. Infinity does make a shallow mount speaker, but it's only 1/8" shallower. Make sure to not cut your plastic barrier in behind the door panel

Use a coat hanger to fish the wire through the black rubber bellows on the door and pull it through under your dash.

And no, my doors don't have vent windows and my power windows roll up and down quite nicely.

my doors didnt have vent windows either, but the PO,had already cut the holes in the doors and took his system out when he sold the truck to my dad,(14 yrs ago). since i had a couple of brand new 6.5''s laying around in the box i just threw em in, and they fit perfect, but then i couldnt roll the window down.

couple months later i wanted to make my own spacers, but it was just easier to order those from ebay.

I don't have pictures of the wiring. Just use a coat hanger to fish them through the rubber boot. It's a tight squeeze, but can be done.

honda accords have the same depth of speaker magnet issues.3/4 mdf is easy to shape some decent spacers out of if you have basic powertools, or can borrow from your friends.you can even spray glue some vinyl on the spacers if they are in a visible area,or doorpods aren't too hard to hard to build if you don't want holes in your doors.good luck with any of these choices.

reading this thread, i got curious, so i cranked down the windows in the 89 yota after the 6.5 door speaker install, and i have no rubbing issue or anything. I think if you mount them far enought doward the front of the door there wont be a problem, unless you are using serious sound components like Kicker, JBL, Fosgate or that type of ish. I am using 6.5 audiovox (6.00 off Flea Bay), and they sound good enough and cause no rubbing with the window.
