Dash Swap questions....
Hey guys....not exactly new to the forum...but its my first post.....(blushing....yes im a post virgin...) I have 3 4runners.
1.) 1992 3.0 auto - daily driver
2.) 1994 3.0 auto- parts truck
3.) 1988 2.2 5spd- soon to be Michigan trail truck
My question is has anyone swapped a 2nd gen auto dashboard into a 1st gen 5spd truck. I have searched threads for about two hours, and all I have found is a link to pirate 4x4. After beginning to read that thread I found it offered no tech advice, gauge differences, wiring diagrams or anything along those lines...
Does anyone have the answers.....does anyone know where I can find there answers...If i didn't post this in the correct place forgive me.....remember.....virgin.....
thanks fella's appreciate your time.

Im refering to the entire dashboard. All the way from the gauge cluster, heater/ac controls, to the glove box. I have an 87 from California, with a dirty sun dried dash, and a ruster nasty 94 from Michigan, with a spotless brown cloth interior. Would like to mate the 2. I swapped front seats today everything worked great except the rear passenger seat bolts. ( holes didnt line up) Anyone else have any clue what else in easily interchangable???

I think it would look BA. I like the 2nd gen runner dash (as a whole) better the 1st gen, aside from my inclinometer. Best looking dash into the best looking runner...subscribed.
Anything is possible with a little cutting and glass work. Do it!

Its not like your taking us out on a date, no reason to be nervous. F-it. Swap it! You do it first and then I'll do it. Haha

I put a 94 year model dash in a 82...the width was dead on..but it took alot of space..as it protruded further off the firewall than the OE one. It was kinda tricky to do the radio bracketry, and the steering column covers..but it fit...!

Does it fit? Yes... Width wise... it fits... Have I been working on it for 23 hours... yes.... I went from just changing the dash.. to....changing
Crash Bar
heater box
all vents/tubing
both seats
carpet
center console
steering column
The only MAJOR problem encountered yet far is... My 87' speedo is cable operated, while my 94' speedo is electric... So i think im going to try and fab my 87 cluster into my 94 dash... it almost fits dead nuts..it's just alittle more squared off. If my fingers, back, wrist, hands, knees, and eyes didnt hurt i would take progress pictures... but considering im exhausted enough as it is with the swap....pics..are going to have to wait... Everytime i need motivation...I glance over at my pile of beautiful clean brown interior pieces... keeps my groovin'

i am sure you can find a pulse generator that will adapt to your truck to work your "new" speedo.
I am curious as to how much leg room you could possibly have after this swap considering the huge differences in geometry of the two vehicles.
I agree thought that I can not wait to see how this turns out.
