cranks, no start, mechanical noise/smell
1994 4runner, 3vze, 4wd, 280k miles, A/T
I recently replaced rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gaskets on my 4runner. I went and stitched everything back up the way I had it before the repairs and now I'm getting a no start. On top of that, when I try starting the thing I hear what sounds like popping/mechanical noise coming from under the car accompanied by a burning smell, so I stop . Everything was smooth before the repairs, aside from the leaks I wanted to address. Starter was good, trans was good, etc. My thoughts are it may be a transmission issue upon reinstalling it to the engine, but really don't want to tear it apart again unless I really have to. Any help with this would be appreciated
